The Wisconsin Badgers had a nice rebound season in 2009 in which they went 10-3 in college football predictions and finished up well with a 20-14 Champs Sports Bowl win over Miami-FL. It was an important comeback year for coach Brett Bielema, who will be entering his 5th season on the job at Madison. The Badgers looked bad in going 7-6 in 2008 and Bielema was under fire for not doing as well with his own recruits as he did with retired legend Barry Alvarez's players. Bielema went 12-1 straight up in college football odds for his first year which earned him Big Ten coach of the year honors and that may have been more of a curse for him in the end as expectations became too high. Last year did a lot to restore faith in his leadership but online sportsbooks still have Wisconsin 40-1 to win the BCS.

Heading into 2010 college football predictions, Wisconsin is returning 10 starters on offense and 6 on defense. Senior quarterback Scott Tolzien threw for over 2700 yards with 16 touchdowns last year. Senior tail back John Clay ran for over 1,500 yards with 18 touchdowns and was the Big Ten offensive player of the year. Sophomore linebacker Chris Borland was the Big Ten freshman of the year and returns to anchor the defense that includes 2nd team Big Ten senior safety Jay Valai. Wisconsin's problems for 2010 have nothing to do with talent and coaching but instead are with the schedule.

The Badgers must play road games at Michigan State, Iowa and Michigan while hosting conference favorite Ohio State. Ohio State and Iowa are the Big Ten favorites and Michigan State is a solid team as well. Even Michigan could be improved and is always tough at home. Wisconsin has not been a profitable team since that 12-1 season in Bielema's rookie year and went 6-6 against the spread last year. The defense has allowed more than 20 points per game for the past 3 seasons and Bielema is a former defensive coordinator, which has been something of a disappointment. The offense averaged over 31 points per game, however, and may be even better for 2010.

2009 marked a low point during the Mark Richt era. The Bulldogs' 8-5 record was the worst in Richt's nine seasons. Georgia finished in the bottom half of the SEC in both scoring offense and defense. The defense was bad by just about any standards, causing Richt to part ways with three of his four defensive assistants. But there is reason to believe that 2010 will treat the Dawgs better. Richt is 90-27 during his stay in Athens, and wins don't pile up like that unless you're doing something right. With Tim Tebow and eight other Gators making the jump to the NFL Georgia is optimistic that it can get back to the top of the SEC East this season, but I can assure you it won't be easy. After all, Florida crushed the Dawgs 41-17 last season and the cupboard is not empty in Gainesville. The Dawgs rebounded from that loss to win four of their final five games, including a victory over Texas A&M in the Independence Bowl. That gives them some nice momentum heading into the season. Additionally, one has to think Georgia will do a better job of taking care of the football. The Bulldogs ranked last in the SEC and 118th out of 120 nationally in turnover margin a year ago.

Offense - Georgia has an offense loaded with talent and experience, but a lack of experience at the quarterback position could be what keeps the Dawgs from an SEC East title. Logan Gray is the only quarterback on Georgia's roster that has taken a snap in college, and he hasn't taken very many of them. Redshirt freshman Aaron Murray looks to be the better player and that makes him the favorite to land the starting job this fall. Growing pains are expected, but he should benefit from playing behind one of the best offensive lines in the league and from throwing to one of the best wide receivers in the country. The offensive line returns four experienced starters, including stud blindside protector Clint Boling. A.J. Green is a game-breaker, capable of getting behind the defense on any given play. He caught 53 passes for 808 yards and six scores in 2009. In order to take the pressure off of Murray, the Dawgs will go with a heavy dose of running backs Washaun Ealey and Caleb King. Ealey is coming off a 717-yard, three-touchdown season.

Defense - The Dawgs ranked No. 10 in the SEC in scoring defense, allowing 25.9 points per game. That was enough to send three defensive assistants packing. Todd Grantham of the Dallas Cowboys was hired to take over defensive coordinator duties. Georgia also brought Connecticut's Scott Lakatos and Vanderbilt's Warren Belin aboard to coach the secondary and the insider linebackers respectively. Grantham is transitioning the defense into a 3-4 scheme. He wants this unit to be the attacker, so you can count on the new scheme coming with plenty of blitz packages. Being more aggressive on defense should help the Dawgs improve some, but it will also make them susceptible to the big play. The player to watch is outside linebacker Justin Houston. He recorded 7.5 sacks last season.

Prediction - 2nd SEC East - Georgia will be a better football team in 2010, and we will get a much better feel for how much better when it plays South Carolina and Arkansas in September. Right now, Florida still looks to be a little bit ahead of the Dawgs on both sides of the football. That could change by the time these two teams meet in Jacksonville on Halloween eve, but I'm not ready to make that leap yet.
After a promising 6-2 start, Notre Dame lost its final four games in 2009. That was enough for the program to finally cut ties with Charlie Weis. But it is worth noting that Notre Dame didn't lose a single game by more than seven points, and four of its losses came by five or fewer points. If a few or those would have gone the other way, Weis may have been able to keep his job. Now, one of college football's most storied programs is hoping Brian Kelly can succeed where Weis failed. Kelly was a miracle worker at Cincinnati, leading the Bearcats to three straight 10 win seasons, but he has never had the kind of pressure to win that he now faces. But in his favor, he has also never had this much talent to work with.

Offense - Offense was not the problem last season as the Irish ranked eighth in the nation in total offense with a 451.8 yards per game average. The Irish were especially lethal through the air, ranking fifth nationally with 323.5 passing yards per game. Quarterback Jimmy Clausen and wide receiver Golden Tate are gone, but Kelly still has plenty of talent to work with. The first order of business is changing from a pro style attack to the spread. Kelly's spread offense ranked No. 4 nationally in scoring offense last season. In order for it to work right away at Notre Dame, quarterback Dayne Crist must be up for the challenge. He will have no shortage of weapons to help him succeed. If wide receiver Michael Floyd can stay healthy, he will be one of the top pass catchers in the country. Despite missing five games, Floyd managed to catch 44 passes for 795 yards and nine touchdowns last season. Tight end Kyle Rudolph is one of the top NFL prospects in the nation at his position and running back Armando Allen is coming off a 700-yard season.

Defense: This is the side of the football that figures to make or break the Irish in 2010. It certainly broke the Irish in 2009 when it allowed 30 or more points in six games. Defensive coordinator Bob Diaco is confident he can get more out of this unit right away by changing to a 3-4 scheme, which is a better fit for his personnel. Diaco will benefit from inheriting a defense that returns six players in its front seven. Defensive end Ethan Johnson leads an experienced front line. Senior Brian Smith heads up a solid linebacking unit, which also features highly regarded sophomore Manti Te'o. The secondary loses safety Kyle McCarthy, but there is depth behind him with Jamoris Slaughter, Harrison Smith and brother Dan.

Prediction - 8-5 - With seven home games and two neutral site contests, the schedule sets up nicely for Notre Dame to show improvement in the win column in Kelly's first season. Be sure to check out my 2010 college football predictions report to get my take on other top programs across the country.

The college football odds makers don't stand a chance against Jimmy Boyd's award-winning football picks this season!

It will be no easy task for Texas to get back to the Big 12 title game after losing the winningest quarterback in the history of NCAA Division I football. The offense also lost top receiver Jordan Shipley, and the defense must find a way to replace Lamarr Houston, Sergio Kindle, Roddrick Muckelroy and Earl Thomas. That's the bad news. The good news is head coach Mack Brown is a ridiculous 128-27 in 12 seasons at Texas. In other words, Texas is one of the few programs across the country bringing in enough talent year after year to consistently reload.

Offense: Garrett Gilbert is faced with the task of replacing one of the best college football players of all-time. He does enter the 2010 season having won his last 30 game as a starting quarterback, spanning his 2007 and 2008 high school seasons when he led Lake Travis High to consecutive state titles. We did see glimpses of brilliance when he replaced McCoy in last season's BCS championship, but we also saw classic rookie mistakes. Coach Brown is not confident that Gilbert is ready to run the spread so he is installing a power-running offense to take some of the pressure off of his young signal caller. Texas has succeeded with this type of offense in the past with running backs like Ricky Williams and Cedric Benson putting up huge numbers. The problem is I don't see any tailbacks in Austin of their caliber. Brown was not happy about how ineffective his running game was last season. The Horns averaged only 4.0 yards per carry, their lowest tally since averaging 3.4 in 2002. Tre' Newton will get the bulk of the work once again. He gained 552 yards and scored six touchdowns a season ago. If the running game can show the kind of improvement Brown is hoping for, it will open up some nice play-action passing opportunities for Gilbert. Such opportunities will go a long way toward boosting his confidence.

Defense: The Longhorns led the entire country in rushing defense in 2009, allowing only 72.4 rushing yards per game. Stuffing the run will once again be their forte. Defensive coordinator Will Muschamp has enjoyed a lot of success by daring teams to beat Texas through the air. His defenses play the run, forcing teams to pass, and that allows his powerful ends and talented defensive backs to take care of the rest. One of those ends is Sam Acho. He led the Horns with 10 sacks in 2009. Curtis Brown, Aaron Williams and Blake Gideon are all future NFL defensive backs. Gideon really has a nose for the football, picking off six passes last season. The Horns did lose some talented players, but Muschamp has enough talent stepping in to execute his scheme again.

Prediction: 2nd Big 12 South - As good as the Texas offense was in 2009, the defense was the strength of the team. That will again be the case in 2010. Brown will rely more heavily on his defense as he looks to grind out games while his new starting quarterback gains experience. Texas will likely take a small step back following the loss of McCoy, but it is still talented enough to post another double-digit win season. Be sure to check out my 2010 Big 12 football predictions to see how I have the rest of the conference shaping up.

The Tennessee Volunteers finished the 2009 season 7-6. They weren't able to cap off their campaign with a victory over Virginia Tech in the Chick-fil-A Bowl, but it was still a nice year considering 2008 ended without a bowl game. It is also encouraging that three of Tennessee's losses came by four of fewer points. In fact, Tennessee played national champion Alabama as tough as anyone all season. All in all, Lane Kiffin's first season at Tennessee was a success in my book. But Kiffin has now left for USC, and the program has been put in the hands of Derek Dooley. Dooley is a good hire, but his first season on the job could be a very trying one. The Volunteers open the 2010 season by playing the likes of Oregon, Florida, LSU, Georgia, Alabama and South Carolina in six of their first eight games. If the Vols can't find a way to win any of those contests, getting back to a bowl game could be a very difficult task.

Offense: Tennessee's offense was better than expected in 2009 when it averaged 29.3 points. The Vols were able to do most of their damage through the air. They ranked No. 3 in the SEC with 226.3 passing yards per game. Unfortunately, the offense could take a step back this season. Junior college transfer Matt Simms is the early favorite to land the starting job, and he certainly has the pedigree. He is the son of Super Bowl MVP Phil Simms. However, the horse with the best pedigree doesn't always win the race. Simms is very much unproven, and he will be working behind an offensive line that only returns one player with starting experience in league play. The good news for Simms is that he has a talented stable of receivers to work with. Wide receivers Gerald Jones and Denarius Moore have big play ability, and Luke Stocker is heralded as one of the best tight ends in the country. The Vols are also excited about incoming freshman Da'Rick Rogers and Justin Hunter. The running game doesn't inspire much confidence either when you consider that neither Tauren Poole or David Oku have broken the century mark for a season.

Defense: Tennessee really struggled to stop the run last season. It ranked No. 8 in the SEC in run defense, giving up 149.5 rushing yards per game. The defensive line is small outside Montori Hughes, and that means that run defense could be an issue again. Plus, the Vols are really going to miss All-American safety Eric Berry. The guy was a hard-hitting, lock down defender, who could fill quickly against the run. The Vols have a talented performer in Janzen Jackson ready to step in, but he's no Berry yet. Up front, the guy to watch is defensive end Chris Walker. He recorded six sacks and picked off two passes last season. He is the Vols' top returning performer in both of those categories.

Prediction - 4th SEC East - It can be done, but it will be very difficult for Dooley to get the Vols to a bowl game considering how inexperienced this team is and how tough the schedule is. The defense has enough talent to remain a solid unit, but right now the offense looks like it will need time to jell. And time isn't exactly on Tennessee's side with all the tough games in September and October.

The Ohio Buckeyes are hoping that the 2010 season will land them in the BCS National Championship game for the fourth time in the past nine seasons, as they bring back 16 starters from the 2009 season where they went 11-2. The Buckeyes won the Big 10 title going 7-1 in conference play, giving them at least a share of the title for the past five years. Even though this is a very talented team, it won't be an easy road to the National Championship game as they have to take on a tough Miami Hurricane team in non-conference play, and then have road games against both Iowa and Wisconsin. Here is a quick look at what the Buckeyes will be sending out on both sides of the ball, plus my prediction on where they finish the 2010 season in the Big 10.

Offense: The 2010 season will lie heavily on the shoulders of junior quarterback Terrelle Pryor, who can't afford another slow start to the season. Pryor played great in the Buckeyes Rose Bowl game against Oregon, but will see much tougher defenses in conference play this season. The Buckeyes failed to have a 1,000 yard rusher for the first time in four seasons, but I look for senior Brandon Saine to hit the mark this season, also keep an eye out for red-shirt freshman Jaamal Berry. The Buckeyes have one of the top receivers in the country in DeVier Posey, and another quality threat in senior Dane Sanzenbacher. The Buckeyes figure to have one of the top offensive lines in the country this season, as they return four starters, but should have no problems with Mike Adams taking over at left tackle.

Defense: The Buckeyes will once again have a top defense in 2010, even though they return just six starters on this side of the ball. The only concern will come up front on the defensive line, where they must replace three starters to go along side senior defensive end Cameron Heyward, who led the Buckeyes in sacks with 6.5 in 2009. Junior Nathan Williams figures to take over at the other end spot, while senior Dexter Larimore and sophomore John Simon are expected to start in the middle. The Buckeyes are loaded with talent at linebacker, as they bring back two of the best in the country in Brian Rolle and Ros Homan, and I look for junior Etienne Sabino to be a force as he steps in at the strong side spot. The secondary will feature two very good corners in seniors Chimdi Chekwa and Devon Torrence, while sophomore Orhian Johnson is expected to start at the open strong safety spot alongside the very talented free safety Ben Buchanan.

Prediction 2nd Big Ten: It's easy to see why so many experts have this team picked a top the Big 10 this season, but I think the Buckeyes streak of consecutive conference titles comes to an end this year, as I have the Buckeyes losing at Iowa this season.

If you plan on betting college football this season, than make sure you check out our college football odds for each game, as we provide up to date lines that ensure you get the best odds available for each game.
This will be Boise State's last chance to put their mark on the WAC in 2010, as they will be moving to the Mountain West in 2011. Their dominance cannot be denied as the Broncos have won seven of the past eight conference titles. If Boise State were to go undefeated again this season, then they'd be riding a 26-game winning streak and it would be hard for voters to keep them out of the national title game.

Can the Broncos win this conference again this season? Find out below with my 2010 WAC football predictions where I show you a preview of each team along with how they will finish in the final standings. I have also posted my 2010 college football predictions article which lists the top ten teams in the land. Be sure to check it out before trying to beat the NCAA football lines this season.

2010 WAC Predictions:

1.) Boise State - The Broncos have now won 56 straight WAC home games on the Blue Turf. Their home-field advantage cannot be denied. QB Kellen Moore is back along with 10 offensive and 10 defensive starters. Moore is 26-1 as a starter and has thrown for 64 touchdowns compared to 13 interceptions in his time at Boise. It's hard to bet against this team with so much talent returning.

2.) Nevada - The Wolf Pack had the 6th ranked offense in the land last season at 38.2 PPG scored. 9 starters return to the offense and the Pistol attack should be just as potent this year. The defense has 6 starters back from a unit that gave up 409.3 YPG last season, and unfortunately it doesn't appear to be any better in 2010. Nevada hosts Boise after losing to the Broncos on the road 33-44 last year, but I don't think their defense will be up to par with the Broncos which is why they won't win the WAC.

3.) Fresno State - The Bulldogs return plenty of talent with 8 offensive and 8 defensive starters back. Head coach Pat Hill loves to pound the rock, and though they'll miss the nation's leading rusher in Ryan Mathews, Fresno has all 5 offensive linemen returning. But like Nevada, their defense is in shambles after allowing 413.7 YPG a year ago.

4.) Louisiana Tech - The Bulldogs are in trouble without a sure thing at QB and with RB Daniel Porter gone. Whoever takes over at QB and RB will be playing behind a veteran offensive line with all 5 starters back, though. LA Tech should have an average defense with 6 starters back, but they lose key players along the defensive line. Sonny Dykes inherits a team that won't finish better than fourth in the WAC.

5.) Utah State - QB Diondre Borel is one of the best players in this conference, and he takes care of the ball after throwing just 4 interceptions a year ago. He can do it all, plus he has junior college transfers in WR's Matt Austin, Dontel Watkins and Xavier Martin to get the ball to as playmakers. The offense put up 29.1 PPG last season and 439.3 YPG and this unit should pick up right where they left off. 9 returning starters on defense is promising, but this unit gave up 34.0 PPG a year ago which did the Aggies in. Utah State could be the sleeper in the WAC if the stop unit can improve.

6.) Hawaii - The Warriors don't bring back enough experience to be competitive in 2010. Only 4 offensive and 6 defensive starters return. Their pass-happy offense put up 337.0 PYPG a year ago, but it also cost them down in the red zone when they couldn't run the ball, which led to a -11 turnover margin and just 22.8 PPG scored. The same problems will arise again this season for Hawaii.

7.) Idaho - The Vandals return most of their playmakers from an offense that scored 32.7 PPG a year ago. The problem is that they must replace 4 starting offensive linemen, and try to improve upon a defense that gave up 36.0 PPG. 10 starters return on defense, but unless each player makes significant improvements, the Vandals aren't likely to stop anybody in 2010, either.

8.) New Mexico State - It's a battle between the Aggies and SJSU Spartans for dibs on worst team in the conference. Since NMSU gets SJSU at home this season, I expect them to revenge their 13-10 road loss from a year ago. DeWayne Walker vows this team will be better, but the offense must put up more points after scoring 11.5 PPG a year ago. Managing 3 wins with that offense was a big accomplishment last year, but the Aggies 50-year bowl drought won't end this season.

9.) San Jose State - New head coach Mike MacIntyre has his hands full in his first year on the job. The offense put up just 13.8 PPG, and though 9 starters return, it's hard to see the Spartans improving much offensively this season. A defense that gave up 34.5 PPG can't really get any worse, but it will be tested early with road games at Wisconsin and at Alabama. Their lone wins in 09 came against NMSU and Cal Poly, and I have a hard time seeing SJSU improving on their 2-win total from a year ago.
