Founder members of the Football League, Bolton were a successful cup side in the 1920s, winning the FA Cup three times. The club won the cup a fourth time in 1958 thanks to two Nat Lofthouse goals. A leaner spell followed, reaching a nadir in 1987 when the club spent a season in the Fourth Division. The club regained top-flight status in 1995 after a 15 year absence; their current spell in the top division started in 2001. In 200506 they participated in European competition for the first time, reaching the last 32 of the UEFA Cup. Bolton qualified for the 200708 tournament by finishing 7th in the 200607 Premier League season and this time they managed to reach the last 16 of the competition. Bolton Wanderers moved to the Reebok Stadium in 1997. Their former home was Burnden Park, where they played for 102 years until relocating to the Reebok Stadium.

Bolton have spent the highest number of seasons in the top flight without winning the title (the 2008/2009 season, was their 70th in the top flight).

Bolton struggled in the following two seasons, but survived in the Premier League. The 2001-02 season began with a shock as they destroyed Leicester 5-0 at Filbert Street to go top of the table. They won their next two games, including a narrow victory over Liverpool, and were suddenly the Premiership's pace setters. Despite a memorable 2-1 win away at Manchester United, they went into an awful slump during the middle of the season and needed a Fredi Bobic hat-trick against Ipswich Town to survive. 16th place was secured despite losing the final three games. The arrivals of experienced international players Bobic and Youri Djorkaeff proved vital, as did the emergence of Kevin Nolan and Michael Ricketts.

In the 2002-03 season Bolton made a poor start and, despite another win away at Manchester United, they were bottom until a vital and spectacular 4-2 win against Leeds at Elland Road. Despite suffering from a lack of consistency, Bolton ground out the results needed and secured survival in a final day 2-1 victory over Middlesbrough. The star of the season, Jay-Jay Okocha, was another high profile signing and would go on to be a legend at the Reebok Stadium.

          ]]>

Bolton reached the League Cup final in 2004, but lost to Middlesbrough. Nevertheless, Bolton finished eighth in the league, at the time their highest finish in their Premiership history. In 2005 Bolton finished sixth in the league, thus earning qualification for the UEFA Cup for the first time in their history. The following season, they reached the last 32 but were eliminated by French team Marseille as they lost 2-1 on aggragate. In April 2007, towards the end of 200607 season, manager Allardyce resigned.[8] In his final four seasons at Bolton, Allardyce had recorded consecutive top ten finishes, a record of consistency bettered only by the big four of Chelsea, Manchester United, Liverpool and Arsenal. However, the style that Bolton are believed to have played during this time led them to be voted the seventh most-hated club in English football in a 2008 poll.

Allardyce was replaced by his assistant Sammy Lee, who secured Bolton's qualification for the 200708 UEFA Cup. After gaining only one league win in eleven matches, Lee left Bolton in October 2007[11] and was replaced by Gary Megson.

Megson guided Bolton to survival with a 16th place finish, their safety being confirmed on the final day of the season, as they went on an unbeaten run for their final five games. The new manager broke Bolton's record transfer fee with the signing of Johan Elmander from Toulouse on 27 June 2008, in a deal which cost the club a reported 8.2 million and saw Norway striker Daniel Braaten head in the opposite direction.

Bolton Wanderers' home colours are white shirts with navy trim, worn with navy shorts and white socks. Their current away kit colours follow the design of the home kit, but the colour is a navy blue base with red trim. Their third-choice kit is black with turquoise trim. Bolton did not always wear the white kit they do today, in 1884 they wore white with red spots. Bolton's traditional colours are white shirts with navy blue shorts. The navy blue shorts were dispensed with in 2003, in favour of an all-white strip, but they returned in 2008. The club had previously experimented with an all-white kit in the 1970s.

The Bolton Wanderers club badge consists of the initials of the club in the shape of a ball, with red and blue ribbons beneath. The ribbons controversially replaced the Red Rose of Lancashire, coinciding with the club's move to the Reebok Stadium. The club's original badge was the town crest of Bolton.

It is a modern, all-seater stadium with a capacity of 28,723. In recognition of the clubs former ground the stadium stands on "Burnden Way". It has four stands: The sponsored "The Debt Matters Stand" at the north end, the similarly sponsored "Woodford Group" Stand opposite, the West Stand at one side of the pitch and the "Nat Lofthouse" Stand at the other side. The Reebok Stadium is named for long-time team sponsor, Reebok.

Though Wanderers are not the top ranked of the Premier League 2009-10, but they have been appreciated a lot by the viewer. They got historical and terrific victories in this premier league. Now they are going to face Blackburn Rovers on November 22. Wanderers are passionate enough to give their opponents a tough time.

Bolton have a large fan base and have millions of fans all over the world and people love to watch their matches live into the play ground. Bolton fans love to enjoy and experience the thrill during the Bolton match live in the ground.
Congratulations to Norwich City who are back in the English Premier League......and with a Scottish manager. This now means that 6 of the 20 English Premier League managers are Scottish. Why is it that Premier League Chairmen are recruitingScottish managers? Has Sir Alex Ferguson set a precedent within the league and hehas created a blueprint for success within theEnglishPremierLeague.

There are many theories as to why Scottish managers have historically done well within the top tier of English football. One school of thought is the fact that due to their working class backgrounds they have a fantastic work ethic. Another theoryis that the Scottish don't suffer fools gladly and don't let player's egos take over the dressing room. Sir Alex Ferguson for example has let star players leave the club when they have crossed the line - think David Beckham and Jaap Stam who both got listed after a fall out with him.

More likely is the fact that thecurrent crop of Scottish managers within the Premier League all began their coaching careers whilst still playing. David Moyes for example was taking his coaching qualifications at the age of 22. They also have fine role models to look up to - Sir Alex Ferguson would have looked up to the likes of Jock Stein, Bill Shankly and of course Sir Matt Busby whilst the current crop of Scottish managers in the English Premier League in turn look up to Sir Alex. You only have to look at the statistics to see that Scottish managers are reknowned for their loyalty and longevity within their clubs.

          ]]>

Sir Alex Ferguson for example is the longest serving manager in the league having been in charge of Man Utd for nearly 25 years. David Moyes is in fourth position having managed Everton for 9 years. Paul Lambert, Steve Kean and Owen Coyle have been with their clubs (Norwich, Blackburn and Bolton respectively) for less than 2 years but there is no reason why they won't go on to manage their clubs for a long time.Kenny Dalglish who is in his second spellat Liverpool only left first time round due to ill health and was back at the club before he was appointed manager as a Club Ambassador.

Other Scottish managers haveplyed their trade in thePremier League with reasonable success. George Burley had a fantastic run with Ipswich Town in 2000-2001 result culminating inwinning the Manager of the Year award and also reaching the UEFA cup. Graeme Souness hasalso hadspells with Liverpool, Blackburn and Newcastle in the English Premier League, Gordon Strachan (Coventry and Southampton) ,George Graham(Arsenal, Tottenham and Leeds)Walter Smith (Everton) and most recently Alex McLeish with Birmingham. Wehave also seen Joe Jordan, Gary McAllister and Steve Clarkein Assistant Manager rolesat Tottenham, Aston Villa and Liverpool. Steve Nicol, John Spencerand Mo Johnston, both former Scottish internationalsare alsohighly respected managers within Major League Soccer in the USA.

Some of the top pundits and commentators within the gameare Scottish. Andy Gray at SkySports and now TalkSport, Alan Brazil also at TalkSport, Craig Burley at ESPN and Alan Hansen for the BBC. When they talk, people listen. When these peopleprovide analysis on a match they sometimes sound harsh but authoritative and their views are highly regarded. You don't hear many people from the North West or the West Country on the radio or television!

So in conclusion the question remains "Why are there so many Scottish managers in the Premier League"? I think the simple answer is firstly that they have many successful role models to follow, they are unbelievably passionate, they have a fantastic work rate and desire to succeed and they start to learn the trade whilst they are still playing. With 4 of the current Scottish managers in the English Premier League in their early 40's we may possibly see another Sir Alex in the coming years.

Those teams unable to make it to the UEFA Champions League will look for they consolation in the Europa League, which begins with a very competitive group stage.

The second most prestigious club competition in Europe already knows how its 48 contenders will be divided throughout the group stage that begins on September 16th. There are only 10 guests missing that will join the competition after the group stage knocks out half of its competitors. These guests will come out from the Champions League teams that don't make it to the next stage. This will be the second year in which the competition is played under its new format and name. Previously it was know as the UEFA Cup, since its creation in 1971 until last year, when it merged with the UEFA Intertoto Cup.

The defending champions, Atletico de Madrid, will begin their attempt to revalidate the title in the Dublin Arena, where the final will be host on May 18th, 2011. If their expectations for this season where already high, after defeating Inter last week for the UEFA Super Cup final their aspirations have been set even higher, as all of them management, players, and fans are confident of their conditions. The first obstacles they will have to overcome in Group B are: Bayer Leverkusen, Rosenborg, and Aris Thessaloniki.

          ]]>

Group A has the three times winners Juventus, against the multi-millionaire Manchester City, a team that is trying to gain prominence not just in England, but in Europe as well. They shouldn't find much resistance in Salzburg and Lech Poznan, the two teams that complete the group, but their fight for the first place will make things interesting.

Continuing with the draw, Group C will have Sporting from Portugal and Lille from France departing as favorites over Levski Sofia and Gent. Meanwhile Group D has Villarreal, Brugge, Dinamo Zagreb, and PAOK competing for one of the two tickets that will lead them to the next round.

In Group E we find AZ Alkmaar, a team that gave a grateful surprise in the Eredivisie two seasons ago, when they proclaimed themselves as Dutch champions and halted PSV's domain. Their opponents are: Dynamo de Kiev, Borisov and Sheriff. The Russians will be represented by CSKA Moska and Zenit. CSKA will be in Group F along with Palermo, Sparta Praha, and Lausanne. And in Group G Zenit will compete against Anderlecht, AEK Athens, and Hajduk Split.

The confrontation between the Germans from Stuttgart and the Spaniards from Getafe will be the main dish in Group H, which will be completed with Odense and Young Boys. PSV, Sampdoria, Metalist Kharkiv, and Debreceni make up Group I, where the first two part as favorites. The next two groups, J and K, have very attractive matches ahead, as we will see Sevilla, Paris Saint-Germain, Borussia Dortmund, and Karpaty trying to avoid and early elimination from the competition in Group J. Liverpool, Steaua Bucharest, Napoli, and Utrecht will also have an interesting competition going on in Group K, for one ticket to the round of 32 phase.

Last but not least we have Group L, where Porto, Besiktas, CSKA Sofia, and Rapid Wien complete the competition.

Four out of the five British teams, including all three English teams, left in the UEFA Cup advanced to the next round after doing enough struggle in their respective matches this evening. Draws for Bolton (0-0), Rangers (1-1), and Tottenham (1-1) sealed all three sides places in the last League Round of 16 first legs. Football fanatics had got surprising moments by watching soccer results.

Tottenham, currently ranked as second popular team has got victory in the UEFA Cup, play over Slavia Prague in the match for the second season running. Spurs defeated Slavia in the first round of the match in the 2006/7 season with ratio of 2-0 on aggregate goals. New manager of Spurs, Juande Ramos also supervised his team Sevilla's 4-2 Champions League and got victory over Slavia Prague this season. And, Tottenham will have the intention of emulating north London rivals Arsenal who smacked down the Czech side with score of 7-0 earlier this season. All these matches are showing results in such manners that put audience in state of unconsciousness of what is going on next for soccer live scores.

          ]]>

After a 2-1 win over Slavia Prague, Tottenham are in a top ranked position despite noticing goalkeeper Radek Cerny provide his former football club a slight opening with a blunder of second-half. The firm of Keane (30) and Berbatov (4) puts Spurs in full control. But, Slavia were being managed to get thanks on the scoreboard in part to Cerny, whose mishandling behavior allowed David Strihavka at 69th minute tap-in and in a while may have granted Paul Robinson his first laugh, and maybe some unreliable expectations to go with it. Both teams, Tottenham and Everton are at their best positions at home as most special is Spurs which scoring proficiency enhances 7,000% at White Hart Lane, so getting any unforeseen upsets, both sides are ready for Uefa Cup round of 32 first legs.

Basically, UEFA Champions League is consisted of three qualifying rounds, four knockout rounds and a group stage. In these qualifying round matches, clubs must play two matches to one another in their home grounds and the club getting greater aggregate of goals tends to qualify for the next round.

?Whilst watching the summer activity going onin the transfer market yesterday I saw that LeedsUnited are potentially going to re-sign former players Jonathan Woodgate, Lee Bowyer andAlan Smith. This in my opinion would be a great coup as all 3 players still have a lot to offer at the highest level providing they stay injury free. The news got me thinking about other players that dropped down into the lower leagues whilst in the twilight years of their playing careers:

Craig Bellamy - After being left out of Man City's Europa League squad for the 2010-11 season, Bellamy joined his hometown Cardiff City on a season loan. He proved to be an instant success with a 35 yard free kick on his debut and hewent onto to score 10 more goals in the seasonwhich helpedCardiff reach the Championship play-offs. He has since returned back to Man City but has not ruled out a permanent move back to Cardiff.

Paul Ince - After his release from Middlesbrough in 2002, Ince dropped down a division to join Wolvehampton Wanderers. In his first season he helped them get promoted to the Premier League via the play offs but after one season they were back down. Ince went on to play 115 games for Wolves scoring 10 goals. He has stated that he would love to return to the club as manager.

Denis Irwin - The Irishman joined Wolves at the same time as former Manchester United team mate Paul Ince and was part of the team that were promoted to the Premier League in 2003. Following the team's relegation in 2004, Irwin retired at the age of 38

          ]]>

Teddy Sheringham - When Premier League team Portsmouth decided not to offer 38 year old Sheringham a contract he decided he would drop down a division and play for West Ham. A fantastic year for Sheringham led to himbecoming the division's third-highest goalscorer with 20 goals and he also won the Championship Player of the Season award.

Dennis Wise - After his sacking from Leicester City, Wise moved to First Division Milwall in 2002, becoming player manager in 2003. A successful season with the club culminated with them reaching the FA Cup Final where they lost 3-0 to Manchester United. As United had already qualified for the UEFA Champions League, Milwall qualified for the UEFA Cup for the first time in their history unfortunately getting knocked out in the first round.

Paul Merson - Merson joined newly relegated first division club Middlesbrough in1997 after they doubled the wage terms offered by Arsenal. He was instrumental in the club's immediate return to The Premier League. After a term with Aston Villa, Merson signed for first division club Portsmouth in 2002 andagain was a key player during their successful promotion winning season.

Darren Anderton - After an injury plagued career with Portsmouth, Tottenham, Birmingham and Wolves, Anderton joined League One club Bournemouth on a "pay as you play basis" in 2006. Although the club at the time were struggling on the field, Anderton's performances were superb and he scored his first career hat-trick during his time at the club

Nick Barmby - After his club Leeds United were relegated from The Premier League in 2004, Barmby joined his hometown club Hull City. In his first season with the club he helped them gain promotion from League One and in 2008 he was instrumental in getting Hull promotion to the Premier League. Barmby is still playing for the club to this day.

Kevin Phillips - After experiencing Premier League football with Sunderland and Aston Villa, Phillips dropped down to The Championship in 2006 and joined West Brom. Phillips had 2 seasons with the club and scored 38 times in 71 games to help them gain promotion back to The Premier League in 2008. Phillips then stayed in the Championship and moved to Birmingham City where he also helped them get promoted back to The Premier League.

Ian Harte - After leaving Blackpool in 2009, Harte signed for League One club Carlisle United. He ended up helping the team regain League One status after scoring 18 goals from defence. In 2010, Harte signed for Championship team Reading and had a great season scoring 10 goals and making the PFA Championship team of the year.

INTRODUCTION
Chelsea Football Club are a professional English football club based in West London. The team, founded in 1905, play in the Premier League and have spent most of their history in the top tier of English football. Chelsea have been English champions three times, and have won the FA Cup five times, the League Cup four times and the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup twice.

The club had their first major success in 1955, winning the league championship. Chelsea won several cup competitions during the 1960s and 1970s, but after that did not win another major title until 1997. The past decade has been the most successful period in Chelseas history, capped by winning consecutive Premier League titles in 2005 and 2006, and reaching their first UEFA Champions League final in 2008.

Chelsea's home is the 42,055 capacity Stamford Bridge football stadium in Fulham, West London, where they have played since their establishment. The club are based just outside the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, in the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham. In 2003, they were bought by Russian oil magnate Roman Abramovich.

Chelsea's traditional kit colours are royal blue shirts and shorts with white socks. The club crest has been changed several times in attempts to modernize or re-brand; the current crest, featuring a ceremonial lion holding a staff, is a modified version of one first adopted in the 1950s.The club has sustained the fifth highest average all-time attendance in English football. Their average home gate for the 200809 season was 41,464, the fifth highest in the Premier League.

BRIEF HISTORY
Chelsea were founded on 14 March 1905 at The Rising Sun pub (now The Butcher's Hook), opposite the present-day main entrance to the ground on Fulham Road, and were elected to the Football League shortly afterwards. The club's early years saw little success; the closest they came to winning a major trophy was reaching the FA Cup final in 1915, where they lost to Sheffield United. Chelsea gained a reputation for signing big-name players and for being entertainers, but made little impact on the English game in the inter-war years.

Former Arsenal and England centre-forward Ted Drake became manager in 1952 and proceeded to modernise the club. He removed the club's Chelsea pensioner crest, improved the youth set-up and training regime, rebuilt the side, and led Chelsea to their first major trophy success the League championship in 195455. The following season saw UEFA create the European Champions' Cup, but after objections from The Football League and the FA Chelsea were persuaded to withdraw from the competition before it started.

          ]]>

The late 1970s and the 1980s were a turbulent period for Chelsea. An ambitious redevelopment of Stamford Bridge threatened the financial stability of the club, star players were sold and the team were relegated. Further problems were caused by a notorious hooligan element among the support, which was to plague the club throughout the decade. In 1982 Chelsea were, at the nadir of their fortunes, acquired by Ken Bates for the nominal sum of 1, although by now the Stamford Bridge freehold had been sold to property developers, meaning the club faced losing their home. On the pitch, the team had fared little better, coming close to relegation to the Third Division for the first time, but in 1983 manager John Neal put together an impressive new team for minimal outlay. Chelsea won the Second Division title in 198384 and established themselves in the top division, before being relegated again in 1988. The club bounced back immediately by winning the Second Division championship in 198889.

In June 2003, Bates sold Chelsea to Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich for 140 million, completing what was then the biggest-ever sale of an English football club. Over 100 million was spent on new players, but Ranieri was unable to deliver any trophies, so he was replaced by Portuguese coach Jos Mourinho. Under Mourinho, Chelsea became the fifth English team to win back-to-back league championships since the Second World War (200405 and 200506), in addition to winning an FA Cup (2007) and two League Cups (2005 and 2007). In September 2007 Mourinho was replaced by Avram Grant, who led the club to their first UEFA Champions League final, in which they lost on penalties to Manchester United. Grant was sacked days later and succeeded by Luiz Felipe Scolari in July 2008.

Scolari spent only seven months in the job before being dismissed after a string of poor results. Russia coach Guus Hiddink was appointed caretaker manager until the end of the 200809 season. Chelsea's season ended with a 21 win over Everton in the FA Cup Final. Two days later former AC Milan coach Carlo Ancelotti was confirmed as Chelsea's new manager.

HOME GROUND
Chelsea have only ever had one home ground, Stamford Bridge, where they have played since foundation. It was officially opened on 28 April 1877. For the first 28 years of its existence it was used almost exclusively by the London Athletics Club as an arena for athletics meetings and not at all for football. In 1904 the ground was acquired by businessman Gus Mears and his brother Joseph, who had previously acquired additional land (formerly a large market garden) with the aim of staging football matches on the now 12.5 acre (51,000 m) site.

COLOURS AND KIT
Chelsea's kit is currently manufactured by Adidas, which is contracted to supply the club's kit from 2006 to 2011. Their previous kit manufacturer was Umbro. Chelsea's first shirt sponsor was Gulf Air, agreed midway through the 198384 season. Following that, the club were sponsored by Grange Farms, Bai Lin tea and Italian company Simod before a long-term deal was signed with computer manufacturer Commodore International in 1989; Amiga, an off-shoot of Commodore, also appeared on the shirts. Chelsea were subsequently sponsored by Coors beer (199597), Autoglass (19972001) and Emirates Airline (200105). Chelsea's current shirt sponsor is Samsung.

SUPPORTERS
Chelsea have the fifth highest average all-time attendance in English football and regularly attract over 40,000 fans to Stamford Bridge; they were the fifth best-supported Premier League team in the 200708 season, with an average gate of 41,673. Chelsea's traditional fanbase comes from working-class parts of West London, such as Hammersmith and Battersea, from wealthier areas like Chelsea and Kensington, and from the Home Counties. In addition to the standard football chants, Chelsea fans sing songs like "Carefree", "Blue is the Colour", "We all follow the Chelsea" (to the tune of Land of Hope and Glory), "Ten Men Went to Mow", "Zigga Zagga", "Hello! Hello!" and the celebratory "Celery", with the latter often resulting in fans ritually throwing celery.

CURRENT PLACE IN PREMIER LEAGUE 2009-10 AND TICKETS
Chelsea with 30 points is at the top of the Premier League table. Chelsea have highest points in the league table. Till now Chelsea have played 12 Matches in Barclays Premier League 2009-10, out of which they won 10 matches and lose just 2.

Chelsea have a large fan base and have millions of fans all over the world and people love to watch their matches live into the play ground. Chelsea fans love to enjoy and experience the thrill during the Chelsea match live in the ground. Getting football tickets for their matches is really a hard task for the Chelsea fans.
The last ever Uefa Cup final features Werder Bremen and Shakhtar Donetsk, both teams overcoming their countrymen in the semi-final to give them the opportunity to life the famous trophy for the final time. Next season, The Europa League is European soccers second biggest tournament featuring an extended format compared to this seasons affair. The Uefa Cup has struggled for prominence in recent years due to the style and glamour of the Champions League but the tournament has seen some of the famous names and famous soccer strips throughout the years.

The first final was an all English affair

The tournament began in the early 1970s, taking over from the Fairs Cup and the first final was a two legged affair between Tottenham Hotspur and Wolverhampton Wanderers. It may seem that the English dominance of European soccer is a very modern thing given how often the instantly recognizable soccer jerseys from the English Premier League make it the last four of the Champions League but the first Uefa Cup final indicates there has always been strength about this nations European entrants. The match was vividly remembered as the all white soccer kit of Spurs clashed with the vibrant gold soccer equipment from Wolves, with the London club running out eventual winners by a score of 3-1 over two legs. The Uefa Cup final was played over two legs until 1997, since when it has been a straight one-off game. The most successful teams in Uefa Cup history are Juventus, Inter Milan and Liverpool, who have all won the cup three times. All three of these teams have a very notable and proud European soccer history and all three have markings on their soccer kit denoting European triumphs.

Shakhtar Donetsk or Werder Bremen will be hoping to emulate the previous winners by adding their name to the famous trophy and hopefully being allowed to keep the trophy for good. Shakhtar earned their place in the final by overcoming Dynamo Kiev with a 1-1 draw in the away leg giving the team the platform to finish the job at home. Shakhtars vivid orange home top is not too dissimilar to the soccer jersey worn by Wolves in the very first Uefa Cup final and no doubt the Ukranian team will be looking to go one better than the Midlands club.

Away victories in the German semi-final.

Werder Bremens passage to the final was very different with a 1-0 defeat in their home tie placing them as massive underdogs to progress to the final. Driven on by Diego, Werder Bremen pulled off a sparkling display in Hamburg as they overturned the deficit and shocked the home side by recording a 3-2 victory, which saw them on the road to Istanbul by virtue of the away goals rule. This was enough to place the team into the final with a high level of confidence and it is shaping up to be an exciting encounter and one that will last in the history books.

The 2008/09 UEFA Cup final will be played on May 20, 2009 at Sukru Sarcoglu Stadium in Istanbul, Turkey.
The group stage concluded on Wednesday Dec 10th night. The eight teams who finished in third place in their respective groups have advanced to the knockout stage, which begins in February of 2009 with 32 participants. Joining FC Zenit St. Petersburg as qualifiers are FC Girondins de Bordeaux, Werder Bremen, FC Shakhtar Donetsk, Olympique de Marseille, Aalborg BK, ACF Fiorentina, and FC Dynamo Kyiv. The top two teams in each group are still in contention for Champions League berths, and therefore not yet assured of spots in the UEFA Cup.

The Champions League takes precedence among the two events, and therefore clubs that qualify for that more prestigious tournament do not participate in the UEFA Cup. Fiorentina, which reached the UEFA Cup semifinals last season, defeated FC Steaua Bucuresti on Wednesday to book its place in the knockout round. Werder Bremen, meanwhile, scored a 2-1 home win over Inter Milan to secure third place in its group and qualify for the UEFA Cup. It's a consolation prize for Werder Bremen, which missed out on qualifying for Champions League action. We're disappointed in the Champions League this year but, with a bit of luck, in the end we made the best of a bad situation, said Werder Bremen's Torsten Frings in a statement on the club's official website. In spite of everything, I am happy that we will continue to play internationally next year. FC Zenit St. Petersburg, which overcame Rangers FC in Manchester to hoist the most recent UEFA Cup trophy, has a chance to equal the accomplishment of Sevilla FC by winning back-to-back UEFA Cup championships. Sevilla FC captured repeat titles in 2006 and 2007 and could soon be competing in another knockout stage yet again.

With the knockout stage still two months away, it has already been a long and grueling road to the UEFA Cup for the competitors. Prior to the group stage, UEFA Cup hopefuls endured two qualifying rounds, the first of which took place in July and the second of which was held in August. Advancing teams progressed to first-round play held in September and October. The all-important group play, which concludes next week, consists of eight pods, all of which contain five teams. Next season, however, the format will be changed so that there are 12 groups, each comprised of four teams. After 16 teams advance out of February's opening knockout stage, the second round will take place in mid-March.

The quarterfinals will be held in mid-April, and the semifinals will be featured in late April and early May. The upcoming UEFA Cup Final will take center stage on May 20, 2009 and will be hosted in Istanbul's Sukru Saracolou Stadium. Turkey's largest city also showcased another big European soccer event when the 2005 UEFA Champions League final between Liverpool FC and AC Milan was contested in the Ataturk Olympic Stadium. Istanbul will be the 12th city to host the UEFA Cup final since the tournament switched to a new format for the 1997-98 season.

For the new season, the UEFA Cup is now known as the UEFA Europa League. It is the second competition organized by ruling European football authorities in terms of glamour and importance, after the Champions League. However, many critics consider it to be very far behind in the two areas and are cynical of the change in name and format of the tournament by the organizers. They believe that the rebranding will not amount to anything in the end and that interest by fans, media and the clubs will continue to be lukewarm at best.

They could not be more wrong if one were to consider a few factors that accompany the change. The name as UEFA Europa League already makes a subliminal difference in terms of branding appeal and power. It gives a better idea of what the competition is about. Calling it a league gives it a considerably catchier ring than a tournament that is simply named a Cup for UEFA.

In terms of the number of clubs taking part in the whole event, there is also an improvement over previous editions. There will be over 190 clubs who would have been in the tournament at one stage or another at the end of it. There are some who have said that the number is too excessive. But they have failed to recognize the fact that giving more teams a taste of European action can only help to promote greater participation in the future. It will help to raise the profile of the Europa League with other clubs who might normally not even have a chance of playing against other quality European football teams.

A few quarters have also criticized the allowance of teams eliminated from the Champions League to join the UEFA Europa League at different stages. According to these observers, they claim that such moves demean the competition as a whole and is the main reason why many view it as a second rate tournament, one that is full of unwanted clubs. It might have a hint of that, but the reality is that these clubs do add to the overall quality of the event. Teams that have previously qualified for the Champions League were able to do so because of their quality. From past history, the likes of AC Milan, Arsenal, Chelsea and even Real Madrid could now grace the competition. Their presence would boost interest and coverage of the Europa League at one point or another.

Therefore, to say that the Europa League will be no different from its predecessor the UEFA Cup would be very wrong. While some of the changes might seem contradictory to claims by UEFA President Michel Platini of making the competition stronger, on closer inspection, they do fulfill such an ambition. The proof of the pudding is in the eating, as they say. The best way to find out will be when the season concludes when the final will be held in May 2010.

Futbol Club Barcelona (Catalan pronunciation): Spanish (often known simply as Barcelona) and familiarly as Bara (Catalan), is a Spanish professional football club, based in Barcelona, Spain. They play in La Liga, and is one of the only three clubs to have never been relegated, along with Athletic Bilbao and rival Real Madrid. They are the current Spanish and European football champions. They won Champions League four times:Recently in 2006,2009,2011

The tournament,Champions League, was inaugurated in 1955, at the suggestion of the French sports journalist and editor of L'quipe Gabriel Hanot,[5] who conceived the idea after receiving reports from his journalists over the highly successful Campeonato Sudamericano de Campeones of 1948.[6] As a reaction to a declaration by the British press on the part of Wolverhampton Wanderers being "Champions of the World" after a successful run of European friendlies in the 1950s, Hanot finally managed to convince UEFA to put into practice a continent-wide tournament. The tournament was conceived as a competition for winners of the European national football leagues, as the European Champion Clubs' Cup, abbreviated to European Cup.

The competition began as the 195556 using a two-leg knockout format where the teams would play two matches, one at home and one away, and the team with the highest overall score qualifying for the next round of the competition. Until 1992, entry was restricted to the teams that won their national league championships, plus the current European Cup holder. In the 199293 season, the format was changed to include a group stage and the tournament was renamed the UEFA Champions League. There have since been numerous changes to eligibility for the competition, the number of qualifying rounds and the group structure. In 199798, eligibility was expanded to include the runners-up from some countries according to UEFA's coefficient ranking list. The qualification system has been restructured so that national champions from lower ranked countries have to take part in one or more qualifying rounds before the group stages, while runners-up from higher ranked countries enter in later rounds. Up to four clubs from the top-ranked countries are currently given entry to the competition.

Between 1960 and 2004, the winner of the tournament qualified for the now defunct Intercontinental Cup against the winner of the Copa Libertadores of South America. Since then, the winner automatically qualifies for the FIFA-organised Club World Cup with other winners of continental club championships.

The UEFA Champions League is a cup competition organised by the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) since 1955 for the top football clubs in Europe. It is widely considered to be the most prestigious football club competition in the world.[1][2] The final of the competition is the most watched annual sporting event worldwide, drawing just over 100 million television viewers.

Prior to 1992, the tournament was officially called the European Champion Clubs' Cup but was usually referred to as simply the European Cup. The competition was initially a straight knockout competition open only to the champion club of each country. During the 1990s the tournament began to be expanded, incorporating a round-robin group phase and more teams. Europe's strongest national leagues now provide up to four teams each for the competition. The UEFA Champions League should not be confused with the UEFA Europa League, formerly known as the UEFA Cup.

The Champions League quarter-final game between FC Schalke vs Inter Milan is going to happen on Wednesday 13th April 2010 at the Veltins Arena, kick-off 18:45 GMT. This game will be a fun game to watch, as they will be a lot of offensive from both the teams.

FC Schalke showed a very strong and classy squad of them in the first leg handing Inter Milan. They are unbeaten this season at home ground with a record of four games out of four victories.

Schalke have won 5 out of their last 6 fixtures in all competitions. The side has also never lost a tie in Champions League after winning the first leg away from home.

FC Schalke 04 has played fifteen German 1 Bundesliga games this season on Veltins Arena, Gelsenkirchen. On home ground, FC Schalke 04 has won 7, drawn 3 and lost 5 games and this ranked Die Knappen (The Knaves) 10th in home team performance in the German 1 Bundesliga.

There is one game that both teams have played previously here back in 1997 for the UEFA Cup a game that ended draw with a 1-1 score.

Inter have a chance to be the first team to defend their title from last year. They will have to come back by scoring at least 4 goals without conceding even one. The side has been on quarter-finals eleven times and has been able to overcome in eight of those.

Inter Milan has played sixteen Italy Serie A games this season away from home. On away ground, Inter Milan has won 7, drawn 3 and lost 6 games and this ranked the Nerazzurri 3rd in away team performance in the Italy Serie A.

On their day, it would seem possible but Schalke will not let them do so without a fight. As of now, Internazionale the current champions are staring down the barrel at elimination round.

Possible staring line up:

FC Schalke: Neuer; Uchida, Howedes, Matip, Sarpei; Jurado, Papadopoulos, Draxler, Baumjohann; Raul, Edu

Inter Milan: Julio Cesar; Maicon, Ranocchia, Lucio, Zanetti; Thiago Motta, Cambiasso, Stankovic; Sneijder; Milito, Eto'o

Soccer Branding: The Story of European Soccer in Nigeria

By Eric Okeke

European soccer is making a very impact in Nigeria, captivating the minds and attention of soccer buffs, the young, and the young at heart, affecting the way Nigerians relax and unwind, and throwing up business opportunities for smart entrepreneurs.

And the story of this soccer brand is that of club support, fun, entertainment, gambling, and business in Nigeria, though the game is played thousands of kilometres away. For Nigerians, soccer is the game and entertainment; football clubs and players are the brands; while viewing the matches is the business.

The big brands of European soccer making waves in Nigeria are, The UEFA Championships, and English Premier League. Whenever teams in these competitions engage themselves in competitive soccer for a cup, Nigerian fans are held spellbound. It is as if the match is being played In Nigeria.

Some fans are strong in their support of the clubs they love. Come and see the campaigns in Nigeria for these clubs before any crucial match. Sometimes, it is fanatical. And in many cases, it results in brawls and big fights between supporters of different European clubs.

The support of clubs sometimes goes beyond the ordinary. At times, emotions run high. The big names are Manchester United, Barcelona, Chelsea, Arsenal, Real Madrid, AC Milan, and others. For these football clubs, their images loom large in Nigeria, and they command large followership of fans that are even prepared to trade blows, fight, or engage in heated arguments in support of their clubs. The impact of European soccer in Nigeria is so intense that it is shaping the way soccer fans relax and unwind amidst fun, food and drinks.

Two European clubs that the largest crowd of supporters in Nigeria are Manchester United (Man U) and Chelsea. And the curious observer of the profile of these supporters will see clear distinctions or stratification in terms of social class, education, and income power. How?

Man U has captivated the fanatical support of the middle, professional and upper class, who have flat screen television sets at home, and subscribe to cable television. And after any win by this football club, you will hear shouts of, Man U for Life! by excited fans. This is followed by thronging of beer parlours and pepper soup joints in most cities in Nigeria to celebrate the wins. When they gather there and relish the win, you will hear agitated fans tell so many stories about the match; narrate all sorts of analysis and do rigorous discourse of the game that has just been played. After every big match, there is plenty of soccer storytelling in Nigeria.

Chelsea on the other hand is in total control of the masses, the lower class, the street boys, the motor park touts, jobless youths and street urchins poplularly known as area boys, in Lagos metropolis, Nigeria. They are more in number, are fanatical in their support for Chelsea, and are even prepared to die for the team.

Whenever Man U confronts Chelsea in a big match, there is tension in Lagos, even before the match day. The UEFA Cup Final for 2007 or 2008(I am not sure of the year now) between Man U and Chelsea was a storm in a tea cup in Lagos.

Seven days before the match, the tension was palpable in Lagos. Who will win the match? The big question triggered intense debates all over the city and sometimes resulted in pre-match fights between Man U and Chelsea supporters in Nigeria. Sports newspapers increased the tempo as they soaked supporters of both clubs with interviews, latest news and rave reviews of the clubs preparations, fitness of players, and the final match strategies.

Man U will win; we are Man U for Life! The clubs supporters will chant to the chagrin of Chelsea supporters who respond vociferously with Up Chelsea! Chelsea supporters in Lagos, outnumber the Man U for Life chanters. The Chelsea buffs are everywhere, more in the streets, marketplaces and motor parks. More than 80 per cent of commercial bus drivers in Lagos are die-hard Chelsea fans. And they are very loud. They can throw caution to the winds and fight anywhere with bottles, stones, any dangerous objects, especially if they are high on tobacco and reek of alcohol.

Not so with Man U supporters. They are more cultured, better educated and work in blue-collar and white collar jobs. They are more gentle and refined in their football behavior, though also fanatical in their support for Man U, hence the slogan, Man U for Life, a clear indication they are not ready to switch their European Club brand loyalty, whether Man is winning or not. And in many cases, Man U wins.

Back to that epic Man U/Chelsea Final. Twenty-four hours to the match, the whole city of Lagos was drowned with the fever of the match. There were unconfirmed reports of clashes between supporters of both clubs in different parts of Lagos. Bus drivers and conductors fought, radio stations rent the air with pre-match reviews and interactive programmes for listeners to air their views on the outcome of the match.

Man U vs Chelsea was so thick in the air that many residents waited impatiently for the match to come and go. Match day, fans thronged viewing centres and beer parlours to watch the game. If you want to enjoy the viewing of European soccer championships in Nigeria, do not watch it at home. Go to a viewing centre and sit with overzealous fans and listen to all sorts of stories and analysis as the match progresses. You can write a book full of such stories. Football storytelling is strong in Nigeria.

There is the story of a Manchester United fan, at home in Lagos, Nigeria, watching the epic final football match with Chelsea. Suddenly there was power outage. He did not have a standby electric generator to power his television set. Desperate not to miss any action in the match, he dashed into a hotel that has a viewing centre. Unfortunately, the place was thronged by Chelsea fans.

He burst into the centre shouting Man U for Life. The Chelsea supporters there promptly threw him out. Man U eventually won that match to the chagrin of Chelsea fans. Oh! Hell was almost let loose in Lagos metropolis. Man U fans celebrated, though in a subdued tempo because Chelsea supporters almost went on rampage. So many blames by the Chelsea fans. Oh! The referee was partial; there was not enough extra time; Didier Drogba did not play well enough; so many blames but the fact remained that Man U won on penalty kicks after both teams drew level at the end of extra time.

Come and see celebrations by Man U Fans. Three days later, they were still celebrating. Even married women joined in the fray. One madam, a Man U supporter threw open her restaurant and offered customers, ostensibly Man U fans, free drinks. The Man U fever is very strong in Nigeria. To say that Chelsea fans were disappointed that is being charitable; bitter yes, because that was the first time, I was told, their beloved club got very close to clinch the UEFA Cup. And they missed it.

Even the support for European clubs trickles down to families, sometimes breaching the peace at home, causing friction among children and creating challenges for parents in managing their childrens support for European soccer clubs

Take the story of my family of four sons (aged 17, 15, and 10) and a daughter who is just five, and does not know any club yet. Chidubem my first boy is a diehard supporter of Liverpool. Enter his room; you will see a life size poster-picture of the entire Liverpool team pasted on the wall. The second boy, Chibuzor, is a fanatical supporter of Barca. I had never heard that name before. When I asked him which club is that, he promptly told me, Daddy, you are behind time, chuckling. Who is Barca, I asked in amazement. Barca means Barcelona, he replied My boy taught me that. I thought I was current. Chika the youngest boy loves Chelsea.

Whenever their favourite teams wins or loses, come and see the commotion in my house. It could be jubilations, if it is a win, or taunts from other brothers if it is a loss. Should the match be between Liverpool, Barca, or Chelsea, there are fights in my house, so serious that that at times I have to threaten to discipline them if they continue to disturb the peace at home. The youngest boy Chika is always on the receiving end. Should Chelsea win Liverpool or Barca, the little boy is in trouble. The bigger brothers can even bully him if I or their mother is not around. On one occasion, they ran after him to beat him up, and he dashed off running to me for rescue. I did. If Chelsea loses, Oh! Come and see the taunts from the big brothers. In that situation, I usually placate Chika, assuring him that Chelsea will win another day. Such is the impact of European soccer on Nigerian families, sometimes polarizing family members.

It is not only European clubs that are celebrated in Nigeria. The players are revered too. Big names like Didier Drogba, David Beckam, Merci, Christian Ronaldo, Ronaldinho and many others are revered. They are not only big soccer brands in Nigeria, they are idols. Nigerian youths see them as status symbols and role models. The average Nigerian teenager has large size pictures of European soccer superstars pasted in their rooms. Nigerian youths know the movement and transfer fees of European soccer stars much more than that of Nigerian soccer stars also playing in European clubs.

The story of European soccer brands is not only about play. It is also about business. People gamble before matches, some even going into bets. Viewing centres are springing up all over Lagos fitted with flat screen tvs and connected to cable television channels. Match fixtures are displayed on blackboards planted on street sidewalks for the attention of passersby. These centres charge gate fees for soccer fans who want to watch matches.

Some hotels and hospitality outfits have joined the fray of showing such matches to attract more patronage. Many of them on match days bring out flat screen television sets out in the open for free viewing. But every patron watching the match is required to buy drinks.

But the viewing centres are running into trouble now with DSTV, the cable tv company in Africa that has the franchise to beam these football matches in the African continent. DSTV wants the viewing centres to pay fees or royalties to the company because they charge soccer fans money to match. The cable companys position is that the channel is for home entertainment by subscribers, and if any patron charges money for viewing, the person or company has to pay something to DSTV .The viewing centres are crying foul, saying it will squeeze them out of business. A showdown is imminent.

Besides, there are many sports souvenirs T ShirtsPicturesWall PapersGive Aways and other consumer items sporting European soccer stars and their clubs are sold in Nigeria. It is big business. And there are many newspapers dedicated exclusively to football. They come in different shades of tabloids, are cheaper than mainstream newspapers, and are heavily patronized by soccer loving youths to keep track of the fortunes of their favourite players and clubs. However, club loyalty does not stop them from loving any player, and they sometimes wish the player they love sign -on for their favourite clubs. Merci, the youthful Barcelona player is loved by Nigerian youngsters. They like his diminutive size and deft moves in the field of play. Nigerian youths believe this gifted Argentine boy has football sense. Same for the Brazilian, Ronaldinho.

And so anytime you see European soccer on air, know that the fever is very strong in Nigeria.

Following your favorite football team or league can be as complicated as heart surgery. Between all the rules governing what matches can be watched live and what TV subscriptions and equipment you need, trying to watch football live can be both difficult and expensive. Additionally, watching live football in a crowded bar can be bad for your wallet, really bad your liver, and especially bad for your ability to follow the action closely.

As such, watching live football ONLINE has become the answer to most football fans prayers. The quality varies, and the speed of the live football stream depends on your internet connection, as well as the live football sites own traffic. However, regardless of the quality, watching live football online is much better than missing the match, and if you have the right equipment, it can be just as good as watching on television.

Get your 1 year subscription to unlimited live football here.

Watch Live Soccer Online on PC with hd quality picture!
Just 3 steps - 1) Register 2) Download 3) Watch and Enjoy

Between paying services, free services, and paying services which give you access to free live football services, its almost as if the consumer now has too many choices when it comes to watching football online. With so many different ways of watching football online live, football fans often dont know where to start. Hopefully, this article can help you decide what kind of online service for live football is right for you.

I. Watching Live Football Online System Requirements (PC and Mac)

Just about all of the streaming sites are designed for PC use. Generally, the video streams are encoded in Windows Media Video (WMV) format. To view the streams, youll need to download Windows Media Player version 9 or higher. Mac users shouldnt fret, though. All you need to do is download Flip4Mac, a free program that converts WMV files for use on the Mac.

For PCs, its generally recommended that you should run Windows XP or Vista. Most sites recommend a processor speed of 1 GHz or faster, as well as 256 MB RAM or more. Essentially, while you dont need state-of-the-art hardware in order to view football matches on-line, the higher your capability, the better the quality of your viewing experience will be.

As for what Internet browser to use, different sites have different recommendations. You can bet, though, that as long as you have the latest version of Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari, or Netscape, then you should be fine. Additionally, some sites will require you to download a DirectX driver or a Flash Video Player. Both are available for free.
.

II. TV Sports and Football Channel Sites

Many TV sports networks that carry football matches will provide streaming live coverage of football matches, usually for a price. Setanta Sports and Sky Sports are the two biggest networks in the UK that carry Premiership matches. As such, both networks offer live, streaming coverage of Premiership matches on-line.
.

A. Setanta Broadband

Setanta Sports offers separate live football streams for UK and North American customers.

North American viewers can subscribe on a monthly or annual basis. The monthly fee is $14.99/month and the annual fee is $149.99/year. The monthly fee gives you access to 150 Barclays Premier League matches per season. On Saturdays, Setanta has first and third choice for both the 7:30am ET and 10am ET matches. Additionally, both the Sunday 8:30am ET and Monday 3pm ET matches are first choice, and any games played Tuesdays or Wednesdays are also first picks by Setanta. Matches are also available via tape delay and on-demand.

Setanta Broadband also has Pay-Per-View events, which are priced individually on a per game or package basis. UEFA Champions League, UEFA Cup, World Cup Qualifiers, and the Portuguese Superliga are all available via PPV. Annual subscribers get access to PPV events for free, while monthly subscribers can watch PPV events on tape-delay 24 hours after the match.

UK subscribers have a little more football action at their disposal. For 7.99 per month (with no minimum contract), or 79.99 for an annual subscription, subscribers can get access to 46 games per season live and exclusive from The Barclays Premier League, up to 25 live games per season from the F.A. Cup, including one live Semi-Final match, and live coverage of the Final, 60 live games each season from the Scottish Premier League, including all the Old Firm derbies and all the big matches, action from the German Bundesliga, Frances Le Championnat, the Portuguese Liga and the Dutch Eredivisie. Additionally, subscribers will have access to the UEFA Cup, some England international matches broadcast live, and a handful of matches featuring Ireland, Northern Ireland, Scotland, and Wales.
.

B. Sky Sports Net

Available to UK and Ireland-based subscribers only, Sky Sports Net is an extension of Sky Sports TV. If you are a Sky TV subscriber and you subscribe to Sky Sports 1 and Sky Sports 2 and Sky Multiroom (and are not benefiting from any other offer), then you get Sky Sports Net for free. If you are a Sky TV subscriber, but do not subscribe to Sky Sports 1 and Sky Sports 2 and Sky Multiroom (or you do, but you are benefiting from another offer), the cost of subscribing to the Service is 10 per month. The Service is NOT available to non-Sky subscribers.

Subscribers will have access to select Premiership matches broadcast live, usually 1-3 per weekend, as well as select live matches from La Liga, the UEFA Champions League, the UEFA Cup, the F.A. and Carling Cups, and the Coca Cola Championship. Additionally, subscribers will get to watch select International matches live.
.

C. UEFA

UEFAs website offers live streaming video of all UEFA club and international competitions. Live matches cost $7.95 per match and are purchased individually. There is a Replay Subscription that is available to viewers who want to watch matches on delay. A 29.99 annual pass includes full match replay, access to UEFAs archives, and live audio commentary during UEFA matches. Matches can also be purchased individually from the archives for 1.99 per match

Its important to note that UEFAs live football streaming video content is only available to Windows users. Mac users might be able to get around this restriction by using Crossover, but Im not sure about that. Its too bad. If you ever wanted to re-live Manchester Uniteds stirring comeback against Bayern Munich, Barcelona fending off an inspired Arsenal side, or Liverpools stunning win against AC Milan, then you better be using a PC.
.

D. ESPN 360

ESPN 360 is a great way to watch matches that you wouldnt normally have access to just by watching the ESPN family of networks. The catch is that you must subscribe to a participating high-speed ISP (internet service provider, Verizon being the largest participating).

ESPN 360 provides up to 10 different live soccer streams covering sports ranging from soccer to college football. ESPN 360 has archived UEFA Champions League events which are only available for 24-48 hours after the match. Additionally, MLS Matches available on-demand, as are the European Championships and the World Cup. Basically, any sporting event that ESPN has the rights to can be seen, in some form, on ESPN 360.

ESPN 360 is still in its beginning stages, so we should expect significant upgrades and greater availability in the coming years.
.

E. Fox Sports " Australia

Fox Sports " Australia is available to Australian residents only. Thank you Rupert Murdoch!

Aussies can get up to 4 live Premiership matches a week that you can flick through, similar to Direct TVs Direct Ticket for the NFL. Additionally, subscribers have access to up to 5 tape-delayed Premiership matches a week that you can watch at any time. Unfortunately, when it comes to UEFA Champions League, UEFA Cup, FA Cup, or Carling Cup action, Aussies are out of luck. Fox Sports only streams Premier League matches. I guess Ruperts power only goes so far.

Subscribers can purchase a 9 Day Pass for $15 (Australian Dollars), which gives you access to 4 live matches and 5 on-demand matches. Or, subscribers can purchase a Season Pass for $125 (Australian Dollars), which gives you access to 4 live matches and 5 on-demand matches per week, which works out to over 200 games of the Barclay's Premier League in the 2008/09 season.

Also see: WebTVWire.com's review of Fox Sports Australia's Premier League service.

.

III. Official Football Club Websites

Most European clubs, (including all 20 Premiership teams) offer streaming on-line content to their subscribers. Due to F.A. restrictions and TV contracts, none of the Premiership websites are allowed to broadcast live footage of Premiership, Cup, or European matches. They are allowed to broadcast full matches via tape delay, and will usually provide live audio commentary, text updates during matches. Additionally, most club websites will air exclusive post-match interviews, video highlights, documentaries, and archival footage. Some clubs broadcast reserve and academy matches live.

In 2009, Barcelona became the first club in Spain to win the treble of La Liga, Copa del Rey and UEFA Champions League. The club is also the only European side to have played continental football in every season since its inception in 1955. FC Barcelona became the first football team ever to win six out of six competitions in a single year thus completing the sextuple, comprising the 200809 La Liga, 200809 Copa del Rey, 2009 Supercopa de Espaa, 200809 UEFA Champions League, 2009 UEFA Super Cup and 2009 FIFA Club World Cup.

Well the draw has been made for the 09 -10 UEFA Champions League group stages and Glasgow Rangers the Scottish Champions find themselves in Group G along with Sevilla of Spain, VfB Stuttgart of Germany and Unirea Urziceni of Romania. Now that their opponents are known what can be expected in the matches that are looming on the horizon for the Scottish Champions?

Last season saw Sevilla finish third in La Liga and play in the same UEFA cup group as Stuttgart enjoying a victory over the German team however they were still unable to qualify from the initial group. The transfer deadline day capture of striker Alvaro Negredo from Real Madrid was an astute piece of business for the Andalusian club leaving them with an array of striking talent including Luis Fabiano and Freddie Kanoute. An opening day league defeat at Valencia saw Sevilla get off to an uninspiring start however they will no doubt be a force to be reckoned with.

VfB Stuttgart finished third in the Bundesliga last season and made it to the last 32 of the UEFA Cup before losing out to Zenit St Petersburg. This will be the third time that the Bundesliga side will have faced Rangers in the Champions League group stages. In season 2003-04 and 2007-2008 each club enjoyed a home victory so will this season revert to previous form? With the summer captures of Pavel Pogrebnyak from Zenit St Petersburg and Alexander Hleb from Barcelona added to established stars like Yildiray Basturk and Thomas Hitzlsperger the team from the Mercedes-Benz Arena will present a formidable obstacle to overcome.

The final group members are Unirea Urziceni who won their first Romanian league title last season and were also runners up in the Romanian Super Cup. Managed by former Romanian international Dan Petrescu, Unirea are looking to push on from last season and have enjoyed relative success since gaining promotion to the top division in Romania three years ago. The current squad is made up mainly from ex Romanian internationals alongside players from Lithuania, Serbia, Portugal, South America and Guinea-Bissau. As the Tineretului stadium has a capacity of 7000 and does not meet UEFA requirements all Unirea home matches shall be played at the 27500 home of Steaua Bucharest. Whilst not wishing t underestimate Unirea it is difficult to imagine that they will finish anywhere other than bottom of the group.

So can Rangers finish in the top two of the group and qualify for the knock out stages of the Champions League? It is not beyond them to get perhaps seven points form the three home matches whilst on their travels they may not gather much from Germany or Spain but a win in Romanian is a distinct possibility. With a bit of luck they could then find that a second place finish is within their grasp and from there who knows, what is certain however is that with the first games coming up in the next 10 days we shall not have long to wait for an answer.

Once you have decided to witness a soccer match the first thing you look out for is to explore the options to get soccer tickets at affordable rates. Soccer tickets dont come cheap especially if it is a big tournament like the Soccer World Cup, UEFA Cup, MLS or La Liga.

Things to remember while going to buy Soccer Tickets:

Pick a Match
Soccer is one of the most popular games and to get a soccer match ticket is easier said than done. Soccer tickets for all the matches are not the same. It depends on the level of tournament and sometimes importance of the match as well. There are always limited soccer tickets for any particular match and you must pick up a match you are going to watch so that you have enough time to book your soccer tickets in advance. If the venue of the soccer match is in your residential area you may get a discount on the soccer tickets.

Apply for Tickets in Time
Dont wait for the last minute. Sometimes the process for purchasing a soccer ticket is not that straightforward. Applications are invited before the tickets are sold. If thats the case, your applications must be sent to the required authorities well in time. Once the application phase is over, the tickets are sold on first come first serve basis.

Look out for Soccer Ticket Auctions
If you found it too cumbersome a process to send an application for the soccer tickets than be prepared to shell out a bit extra for your laziness. People who have managed to get the tickets may auction them off to the highest bidder once the tickets applications and sales have closed.

Select the Categories
Soccer tickets can be chosen from a number of categories. Category one is usually the costliest and category four is the cheapest. Most expensive ticket may not get you the best place in the stadium. If you are short of money, dont worry, try your luck and go for the cheapest soccer tickets available.

Online Seller
Many ticket brokers have websites that sell discounted soccer tickets. But before purchasing any soccer tickets, research the seller or the website.

Look out for Specific Discount Options
You can check out any special discounts applicable before purchasing any soccer tickets. There could be discounts available for government officials, military personnel and locals.

Season Tickets
Season tickets are for those who are die hard fans of the game. If you are one of those who watch most of the matches of a particular tournament, for example La Liga, then it is better if you go for the season tickets. Season tickets provide more affordable options depending upon the location of the match and seats.

Following some intense rounds in the Champions League, the best participating teams are still on the quest for a ticket to the coming Knockout Stage, in the straggle for the trophy of the most prestigious football tournament in Europe. With many tension the combats for new points in the 5th match day of the Group Stage starts with half of the groups (E, F, G and H) next Tuesday November 25th.

Trying to obtain a seat in the Knockouts, the Spanish fraction from Villarreal will measure its strength against the Manchester United. On this match the Yellow Submarine Spaniards will search relentlessly the victory to raise their advantage above the Red Devils and become leader of Group E. Without a doubt this wont be an easy chore for Villarreal, since the Manchester has done a good work in the Champions, leading its group, although it owns 8 points as well as Villarreal, with the benefit of 2pts in the goal difference. Therefore United shows very positive about this encounter, although they might not count with their star Cristiano Ronaldo, due to a leg injury.

After not a very favorable season, Aalborg, that now celebrates their triumphs under by the command of the trainer Allan Kuhn, has imposed and now will look for a spot on the next round by confronting Celtic. The Celts hasnt been able to stand out even though they are the present Scottish Premier League champions, currently they are in an unfavorable position at UEFA, due to the fact they have only achieved to score once in the 4 games that have passed on this phase, which makes them lose concentration and motivation. The Celtic players know very well this is their last chance in the competition, so they most try to take it, taking in consideration that football can be very unpredictable.

On the top of the next group (F) is the defending German Bundesliga champion of the 2007/08 season, Bayern Munich, will be able to qualify with just one point, but since they want to keep the lead, they will do all theres possible to defeat Steaua Bucaresti at home. The Romanian club doesnt come along with many winning possibilities, not just in the UEFA League but in the Romanian Liga I, where their weaknesses have started to become visible. Meanwhile to this encounter Bayern arrive as the favorite, thanks to their high level and of course the news around the return of the tremendous midfielder Franck Ribry, who satisfactorily recovered from a injure suffered during their previous match against the Bucharest club.

Lyon, that even with a draw will qualify, its going to meet club Fiorentina at the Italians home, who contrarily to their rival needs above anything a victory to continue in this UEFA challenge. However, the Violas appear quite motivated for the match, following an excellent score on their favor at the Calcio Italiano, while Lyon looks a little disappointed for losing to Paris Saint-Germain and the absence of Anthony Reveillere whos injured and therefore out.

In spite of not having the most solid defense, Arsenal, the English leader of Group G, keeps its positivism to go ahead and fight Dynamo Kyiv, which will wrestle to not lose its opportunity to advance. Although Arsenals performance has been quite bad in their last Barclays Premier League games and has caused them a tumble down to fifth place on the table, for their pending clash with the Swedish rely on their new great player Cesc Fbregas, leaving them in an encouraging situation for the UEFA contest. Meanwhile Dynamo is going to try to repeat the story from 1999/2000 season to obtain the required points to reach the next phase.

Directed by the Spaniard Luis Aragons, Fenerbahce arrives to their penultimate match day of the Group Stage confronting some difficulties in their players panel, from which the majority or at least the main ones are hurt or with cards accumulation, negative fact that affects the teams integrity and puts it in the last position of their group. On this occasion see on the field the FC Porto that also presents some players troubles. By this point the Turkish have a low advantage, for the only thing they can reach with a victory on the encounter is a third place that would allowed them to continue playing but in the UEFA Cup.

For Zenit St. Petersburg will be a decisive clash too, but against Juventus. To stay in the tournament Zenit must defeat La Vecchia Signora that is practically in the Knockouts already and although right now has several players injured, they are high playing level team. The Russians at least have a weight less from their backs, since the Russian Premier League season is over and lets them focus more on the European tour.

The last encounter from the 25th game series, a very important one for the Real Madrid, will take part at Belarus against BATE Borisov; a problem for the Merengues, is that they wont have, like some of the mentioned teams, some of their principal players due to injuries, even yet when BATE isnt considered a real threat.

The Champions League tournament started for the first time in the year 1955. French sports journalist and editor, Gabriel Hanot suggested this continental competition for winners of the European national football leagues.

The competition used a two-leg knockout format. The teams played two matches, one at home, and one on the ground of the opponent. The team with the highest overall score qualified for the next round of the competition. Entry was restricted to the teams that won their national league championships. This qualification system continued until 1992.

In the 1992-93 seasons, the tournament became popular with the name UEFA Champions League. In the year 1997-98, the eligibility changed to include not just domestic champions but also the runners-up. The selection criteria for the winners of the European Cup are, however, not standard.

Champions League Final:

The European Cup or the UEFA Champions League Final is set to take place at the Luzhniki Stadium, Moscow on 21st of May 2008.

The championship is varies from the less prestigious UEFA Cup and the defunct Winners' Cup. The tournament consists of several stages.

In the present format, it begins in mid July with three preliminary knockout-qualifying rounds. The 16 surviving teams join 16 specified teams in a group stage. Eight winners and eight runners-up enter the final knockout rounds, and the tournament ends with the final match in May.

The current holder of the European Cup is AC Milan. They have beaten Liverpool FC by 2-1 at the Olympic Stadium in Athens, Greece on 23 May 2007.

How to Get Such Football League News:
