Manchester United Captain Gary Neville believes the team is well prepared to win this season Champions League due to the ability and the preparation the team possesses.

Last year the Manchester United was defeated by the AC Milan, but the team players think they can overcome Barcelona and prove they are better suited this new season.

Manchester Manager Sir Alex Ferguson has invested a lot of money in new players after making an exhaustive research he decided to bring Carlos Tevez, Owen Hargreaves as well as the promising couple of Anderson and Nani to the squad.

Actually it was Tevez who scored the goal that marked the victory of Manchester over Roma and sealed the ticket to the semifinals 3-0.

Neville said We have a great chance this season. Once you get to a semi-final anything can happen. We are playing well at the moment and winning games regularly. Last year we were maybe not quite ready. This year we have the players to go all the way. The games and the atmosphere against Barcelona will be brilliant. There will be some great players on show. Both teams like attack. I do not think defense is the priority.

Ferguson could even afford to leave 37-goal Cristiano Ronaldo, Wayne Rooney and Paul Scholes on the bench with a crucial Barclays Premier League match against Arsenal to come on Sunday.

Also; Nevilles words echoed into another experienced campaigner Ryan Giggs who was a Nevilles team mate nine years ago when both of them used to play with the Bayern Munich. He agreed with what Neville had to say and also is expecting a great English final in Moscow; since the other two teams involved in the semifinals are the Chelsea who must face Liverpool in the next few weeks.

Giggs also thinks that Manchester has a lot of possibilities of winning over the Barcelona team since this season is not the best for the Spaniard team. He thinks the one who wins is the one who is going to perform better in two legs.

He also thinks that all of the 4 teams that are right now in the semifinals are capable of winning the Champions League this season.

If you are not up for that game you never will be. Both are very good teams. It is whoever performs best over the two legs mentioned Giggs. The four teams left are all capable of winning the Champions League. It is all about what happens on the day. Games against Barcelona are what you want, playing against great teams.

Manchester United set a new record by having 11 straight home victories by defeating Roma last Wednesday.

Following some intense rounds in the Champions League, the best participating teams are still on the quest for a ticket to the coming Knockout Stage, in the straggle for the trophy of the most prestigious football tournament in Europe. With many tension the combats for new points in the 5th match day of the Group Stage starts with half of the groups (E, F, G and H) next Tuesday November 25th.

Trying to obtain a seat in the Knockouts, the Spanish fraction from Villarreal will measure its strength against the Manchester United. On this match the Yellow Submarine Spaniards will search relentlessly the victory to raise their advantage above the Red Devils and become leader of Group E. Without a doubt this wont be an easy chore for Villarreal, since the Manchester has done a good work in the Champions, leading its group, although it owns 8 points as well as Villarreal, with the benefit of 2pts in the goal difference. Therefore United shows very positive about this encounter, although they might not count with their star Cristiano Ronaldo, due to a leg injury.

After not a very favorable season, Aalborg, that now celebrates their triumphs under by the command of the trainer Allan Kuhn, has imposed and now will look for a spot on the next round by confronting Celtic. The Celts hasnt been able to stand out even though they are the present Scottish Premier League champions, currently they are in an unfavorable position at UEFA, due to the fact they have only achieved to score once in the 4 games that have passed on this phase, which makes them lose concentration and motivation. The Celtic players know very well this is their last chance in the competition, so they most try to take it, taking in consideration that football can be very unpredictable.

On the top of the next group (F) is the defending German Bundesliga champion of the 2007/08 season, Bayern Munich, will be able to qualify with just one point, but since they want to keep the lead, they will do all theres possible to defeat Steaua Bucaresti at home. The Romanian club doesnt come along with many winning possibilities, not just in the UEFA League but in the Romanian Liga I, where their weaknesses have started to become visible. Meanwhile to this encounter Bayern arrive as the favorite, thanks to their high level and of course the news around the return of the tremendous midfielder Franck Ribry, who satisfactorily recovered from a injure suffered during their previous match against the Bucharest club.

Lyon, that even with a draw will qualify, its going to meet club Fiorentina at the Italians home, who contrarily to their rival needs above anything a victory to continue in this UEFA challenge. However, the Violas appear quite motivated for the match, following an excellent score on their favor at the Calcio Italiano, while Lyon looks a little disappointed for losing to Paris Saint-Germain and the absence of Anthony Reveillere whos injured and therefore out.

In spite of not having the most solid defense, Arsenal, the English leader of Group G, keeps its positivism to go ahead and fight Dynamo Kyiv, which will wrestle to not lose its opportunity to advance. Although Arsenals performance has been quite bad in their last Barclays Premier League games and has caused them a tumble down to fifth place on the table, for their pending clash with the Swedish rely on their new great player Cesc Fbregas, leaving them in an encouraging situation for the UEFA contest. Meanwhile Dynamo is going to try to repeat the story from 1999/2000 season to obtain the required points to reach the next phase.

Directed by the Spaniard Luis Aragons, Fenerbahce arrives to their penultimate match day of the Group Stage confronting some difficulties in their players panel, from which the majority or at least the main ones are hurt or with cards accumulation, negative fact that affects the teams integrity and puts it in the last position of their group. On this occasion see on the field the FC Porto that also presents some players troubles. By this point the Turkish have a low advantage, for the only thing they can reach with a victory on the encounter is a third place that would allowed them to continue playing but in the UEFA Cup.

For Zenit St. Petersburg will be a decisive clash too, but against Juventus. To stay in the tournament Zenit must defeat La Vecchia Signora that is practically in the Knockouts already and although right now has several players injured, they are high playing level team. The Russians at least have a weight less from their backs, since the Russian Premier League season is over and lets them focus more on the European tour.

The last encounter from the 25th game series, a very important one for the Real Madrid, will take part at Belarus against BATE Borisov; a problem for the Merengues, is that they wont have, like some of the mentioned teams, some of their principal players due to injuries, even yet when BATE isnt considered a real threat.

The action of the UEFA Champions League -the greatest European football tournament- is back with all the excitement to resolve the knockout stages, in which, defined by a 2-legs direct elimination the teams that managed to survive through the previous stages of the tournament will battle for the precious trophy.

The hunt for the title, currently held by Manchester United, will have 16 clubs in confrontation, in what will be a show of the best rank of football in Europe. Since in fact, from the 16, eleven are in one of the top three positions of their nations' leagues tables (1st places: Bara, Manchester, Inter, Lyon and Porto; in 2nd: Real Madrid, Liver, Juve and Panathinaikos; as 3rd: Chelsea and Sporting).

On this phase will see 2 matches in which all the attention will centre and that will give biggest thrill to the championship, due to the high competitive level between this four excellent groups involved. The first will be the Italian leader from the Inter against the powerful English head, the Manchester United. The other confrontation will be among Real Madrid, that carries a winning streak of 9 victories in La Liga, and its current equal (in the standings of each nation), Liverpool FC, that has lost a little glitter after being divested from the peak of the Premier.

On its part, the Atltico de Madrid, now with Abel Resino as coach, comes as the favorite to win the duels against Porto, that has done a good job and that currently is in a growing chapter that has allowed them to prevail in Portugal. The participation from the Atltico in the Champions has motivated enormously the team as well as Resina, who dream with the glorious triumph.

Barcelona, leader of the Spanish league, will visit the French champion, the Olympique Lyonnais; encounter that will keep the Catalans more busy than usual, to overcome their last two results in Primera Divisin (draw and loss) -especially with the absence of Erik Abidal and Andrs Iniesta.

With the hope of getting back the Brazilian forwards, Cicinho and Juan Silveira, fully recovered from the injuries suffered on Saturday's match for the Calcio, Roma will measure strength with Arsenal, who won't count with the participation of Cesc Fbregas; aspect that has already made them descend several positions, to the point of leaving the top 3 of the English league.

The incorporation of the Dutch trainer Guus Hiddink -consider one of the best around the globe-has given Chelsea the confidence need it to move on. Thanks to the game techniques proposed by Hiddink, the Pensioners feels totally stimulated to meet a Juventus that in spite of playing a leading role in Italy, it certainly has been losing the stability from years before.

Set to achieve the feat of reaching the great final as it did three years ago, Villarreal is going to hunt that opportunity facing Panathinaikos that, due to not having a better development, has been losing options to settle at the apex of the Greek league, leaded by Olympiakos.

To close the list of encounters, another legendary club that manages to compete again in the Champions League, are the Germans from Bayern Munich, which has not been able to win in three of its last four Bundesliga clashes. This time to be capable of moving further, they will have the arduous task of dealing with Sporting de Lisboa, one of the utmost from Portugal.

In the 1992-93 seasons, the tournament became popular with the name UEFA Champions League.
In the present format, it begins in mid July with three preliminary knockout-qualifying rounds. The 16 surviving teams join 16 specified teams in a group stage. Eight winners and eight runners-up enter the final knockout rounds, and the tournament ends with the final match in May.

The current holder of the European Cup is AC Milan. They have beaten Liverpool FC by 2-1 at the Olympic Stadium in Athens, Greece on 23 May 2007.

The Champions League is a competition of football among the various seasonal clubs. UEFA also known as Union of European Football Associations which is the managing body of European football organizes the Champions League. The Football club that wins the Champions League is awarded the most coveted trophy called the European Champion Clubs Cup. The foundation of the Champions League The tournament which was formerly called the European Cup was initiated by a French sports journalist LEquipe in the year 1955. The tournament was rechristened as the UEFA Champions League in 1992-93. This is a seasonal competition where Europes 32 clubs that are considered the best come together to compete in this tournament. The winners of the competition qualify to play against the winning team of South Americas Copa Libertadores for the International Cup. The first team to win the European Cup was Real Madrid CF and ever since they have been winners of the league 8 times. They had consecutive victories from 1955-56 and 1959-60. Why is Champions League so special? The best domestic clubs of every country in Europe who are members of the UEFA are allowed to participate in the tournament. The only country to be barred is Liechtenstein because of the absence of a domestic league in their country. People are in frenzy when they go to watch players like Ronaldinho, Cristiano Ronado and several others in action. The Champions League is popular worldwide and is one major event that receives extensive media coverage. In the recent 2008 Champions League that was played in Moscow, for first time ever, the finalists were from the same country. It was Manchester United vs Chelsea and was won by Manchester United. The Game The Champions League is divided into the group stage, the qualifying stage and the knockout stage which has second round, the quarters round, the semis and the finals. The group stage has 4 teams divided into 8 groups. Each team has to play against the other 3 teams to be the qualified as the winner of the group. The knockout round has the first and the second teams of each group which are qualified to play this round. Each team needs to play twice, once at home ground and the other away at each stage till they reach the finals. The decision to fix the venue for the finals is taken by the UEFA two years prior to the main event. The introduction of the group stage helped the teams to understand the game plan and strategies of competing teams. Over the years the number of participating teams has gone up from 8 to 32.

Barcelona are 4/1 favourites to win the Champions League after the final round of fixtures in the group stage was completed, while Rangers became the first Scottish side to make it out of the group stage. However, the biggest talking point was 1999 winners Manchester United's shock exit from the tournament following a miserable 2-1 defeat against Benfica.

Group A
Juventus 15, Bayern Munich 13, Club Brugge 7, Rapid Vienna 0

Both Juventus and Bayern Munich had already qualified for the knockout stage, although the final round of matches decided who finished top of the group. Juventus, the 13/2 third favourites recorded a comfortable 3-1 win over rock bottom Rapid Vienna while Bayern Munich could only muster a 1-1 draw at Club Brugge despite taking a first half lead through Claudio Pizarro.

Bayern, now available at 12/1, face a tough draw in the next round.

Group B
Arsenal 16, Ajax 11, FC Thun 4, Sparta Prague 2

Arsenal are flying in Europe this season and had already secured top spot before a ball had been kicked against Ajax. An experimental Gunners side drew 0-0 with their Dutch opponents, even allowing for Thierry Henry to miss a penalty. Arsene Wenger's side are available at 14/1 while Ajax are a more speculative investment at 66.1.

Group C
Barcelona 16, Werder Bremen 7, Udinese 7, Panathinaikos 4

Udinese suffered Champions League heartbreak when they eventually finished third in the group. They needed a draw to finish second and were four minutes away from holding visitors Barcelona to a goalless draw but late strikes from Santiago Ezquerro and Andres Iniesta handed the Spaniards victory.

Runners up spot went to Werder Bremen who hammered Panathinaikos 5-1 to leave their Greek opponents propping up the rest of the group.

Group D
Villareal 10, Benfica 8, Lille 6, Manchester United 6

Unthinkable when the groups were initially drawn, but Manchester United are out of Europe entirely after finishing bottom of Group D. The Reds were odds on to win in Portugal and even took a five minute lead through Paul Scholes. Two goals before half-time tipped the balance in favour of Benfica and United couldn't produce the equaliser necessary to replace them as group runners up.

In what was the most opening group of the tournament, Villarreal secure top spot with a 1-0 victory over Lille. Long shot fanciers can now back Villarreal at 28/1 and Benfica at 66/1.

Group E
AC Milan 11, PSV Eindoven 10, Schalke 04 8, Fenerbahce 4

A 3-2 victory over Schalke 04 ensured AC Milan finished the group in first place and condemned the Germans to UEFA Cup football, while PSV Eindoven put in a professional performance to beat already-eliminated Fenerbahce to secure a place in the next round.

AC Milan, the winners of the tournament in 2003, are fourth favourites at 10/1 while PSV Eindoven are available at a more generous 50/1.

Group F
Lyon 16, Real Madrid 10, Rosenborg 4, Olympiacos 4

Lyon remained unbeaten and topped the group in style following a 2-1 victory over third placed Rosenborg and have dark-horse credentials at 11/1. The glamorous, but often underachieving Real Madrid now face a stern test against one of the group winners after finishing in the runners up position.

The Spanish giants lost their first game following the sacking of coach Wanderley Luxemburgo, falling 2-1 to Olympiakos, but will still have their supporters at odds of 16/1.

Group G
Liverpool 12, Chelsea 11, Real Betis 7, Anderlecht 3

Liverpool's goalless draw with Chelsea was enough to secure top spot in the group, after beginning their European campaign way back in July against Welsh minnows Total Network Solutions. Despite being the reigning European champions and also having a favourable draw in the next round, the Reds are only 10th favourite out of the remaining 16 teams and can be backed at 16/1.

Chelsea remain second favourites at 11/2 but their runners-up position could see them drawn against Barcelona at this stage of the competition for a second year in a row.

Group H
Inter Milan 13, Rangers 7, Artmedia Bratislava 6, FC Porto 5

Rangers may be struggling domestically, but their battling 1-1 draw against group winners Inter Milan ensured they became the first Scottish club to progress beyond the group stages in Champions League history. However, this feat is reflected in the odds, with the Gers available at a whopping 150/1 to win the tournament outright, with Inter Milan seventh favourites at 14/1.

Artmedia Bratislava's adventure in Europe continues with a place in the UEFA Cup after finishing in third place ahead of 2004's winners FC Porto.

It is veritable that football is a sport which is played world thick but we can say that the Europeans loved it. European football is passion to the Europe citizens.
The UEFA Champions League is UEFA's most prestigious club competition. It was originally created as the European Champion Clubs' Cup for the 1955/56 season. In 1992 its format was changed and was renamed as UEFA Champions League. Real Madrid CF and AC Milan have been the most successful sides in the UEFA Champions League, winning the competition three times.
Who is takings part?
The UEFA Champions League is open to each national association's domestic champions, as well as clubs who finish just behind them in their respective domestic championship. The number of clubs that can be entered by an association and their entry point in the competition depends on the association's position in UEFA's coefficient ranking list.
What is the competition format?
Currently UEFA Champions League comprises of three qualifying rounds, a group stage, and four knockout rounds. After the three qualifying rounds, 16 teams goes to the group stage and joins the 16 teams that automatically qualified for the group stage. These 32 teams are split in to 8 groups and the first and the second from each group advance to the first knockout round. After three knockout rounds (round of 16, quarter finals and semi finals) the two top teams fight each other to become the champion of champions.

The soccer kit is not just the uniform that a soccer team wears when playing. It means so much more and has evolved from its humble beginning in much the same way as the soccer boot. Beginning life as a simple top to help distinguish one team's players from the other team, the soccer shirt has become a piece of design and innovation and more importantly to soccer fans across the globe - a fashion accessory.
When soccer became an organised sport in the mid 1800s, the formation of the English Football Association brought many rules to the previously anarchic sport. However, uniforms or kits were not one of the early rules as players generally wore whatever they liked with a coloured cap or scarf used to distinguish themselves from other players. Soccer in England was played mainly by wealthy gentlemen who were financially able to purchase a suitable shirt in their club's colours - with plain white t-shirts the most popular kit due to its ease to obtain and being relatively cheap.
In a handbook published in 1867, it was advised that 'if it can be previously so arranged, to have one side with striped jerseys of one colour, say red, and the other with another, say blue. This prevents confusion and wild attempts to wrest the ball from your neighbour.' However, from the inception of the Football Association in 1863, it still took over a decade for soccer kits to appear and become a regular part of the game.
The first kits that appeared were generally taken from public schools, with teams such as Blackburn Rovers adopting the colours initially of Cambridge University as many of their players were former students. Many of the original kits were garish and brash, shown by Reading's use of a salmon pink, claret and blue uniform - a million miles from the simple royal blue and white of today.
As the sport moved away from a middle class hobby and became popular as a working class occupation, the kits were to evolve with the sport itself. Individuals would no longer be responsible for providing their own uniform, as clubs began to adopt specific colours and provide the kit for their team to wear.
Association football became increasingly popular with spectators and so the soccer players' attire was to be affected to improve the ease of viewing. This led to the abandonment of bright, gaudy colours in favour of distinctive primary uniforms to enable viewers to easily identify their team from a distance.
As the game evolved, the equipment used also changed, with the invention of shin pads by Sam Weller Widdowson in 1874. His use of cut down cricket pads outside of his stockings would also evolve into smaller pads worn inside the socks, a more familiar concept to the modern-day soccer player.
Shorts and socks were not considered a part of the team's kit until around the turn of the century. In 1901, new regulations were introduced making socks officially part of the strip as well as so-called 'knickers' not being required to be lower than the knee leading to the 'soccer shorts' that we see today. It was in the first twenty years of the 20th Century that the soccer kit of today really began to take shape.
Forty years on from the first soccer kits, and with association football becomingly increasingly popular in the UK, soccer kit styles became more fashionable and design-conscious in the early 1900s. Popular shirt designs included the eternal favourite of vertical stripes, although the pinstripe of the 1800s was replaced with a wider stripe. The First World War prevented the UK soccer league from continuing from 1914 until the competition returned in 1919.
Between 1919 and the next suspension of professional soccer in 1939 with the outbreak of war with Germany, kit innovation had slowed down and the most notable change of the period occurred in the 1930s. Collars replaced crew necks and shorts were no longer plain with the inclusion of stripes down the side of the leg. The most influential change was shown by north London's Arsenal when their kit had red shirts with contrasting white sleeves, a design that is still their home kit to this day.
Another introduction that appeared in this period was the introduction of shirt numbers, experimented with by Arsenal before becoming more common in 1939 before the Second World War. Numbers would go on to play a significant role in the merchandise sales of shirts in the latter part of the 20th century, but were used initially to allow easier identification of players.
After the end of World War II, rationing would play a major part in the development of soccer kits. Clubs would struggle to replace old kits due to clothing rations and so would play in the same kits for years or borrow full strips from other teams, including rugby clubs. KIts began to keep a level of consistency and teams opted to maintain a specific colour uniform which would become associated with their club.
The baggy, loose-fitting shorts of the early parts of the century were gradually replaced during the 1950s when kits became more streamlined to aid speed and agility of players. This change in style and design coincided with the European influence on the previously English-dominated sport as soccer started to evolve into a worldwide phenomenon.
The 1950s saw the introduction of the European Cup, renamed as the UEFA Champions League, won for the first five years by Spain's all-white Real Madrid. As the game became publicised through the popularity of both club and country competitions, television also introduced soccer to a wider audience across the world. The sport gained followers from many countries and backgrounds and so the players' attire and the players themselves took on the role of soccer icons.
The arrival of the swinging 60s brought a new type of soccer player to the public's attention as the sport's popularity reached unprecedented highs. The club game was full of well-supported teams including the red of Liverpool and the black and blue stripes of Italy's Internazionale. Alongside the club game, the FIFA World Cup brought a whole new level of interest with the global superstars of the Brazil squad including such greats as Pele and Garrincha.
The popularity of the sport, combined with the new levels of skill demonstrated by some of the new stars of soccer ensured that team kits would need to be as eye-catching and iconic as the players. With television coverage increasing, soccer teams would have to improve the quality of their kits as a symbol of the success and skill that the team possessed. Clubs would begin to realise the potential of a commercially appealing soccer kit in the future, and this belief began to take shape as the 1960s rolled on.
The 1960s saw the arrival of football superstars like George Best, raising the profile of the game to encompass more than just fans of the sport. Often referred to as the 'fifth Beatle', Best would be symbollic of the new appeal that the modern 60s soccer player had in society. Best's fanbase extended past the Manchester United fanbase, in the same way that David Beckham's celebrity status would engulf the world thirty years later.
With the new soccer celebrity, clubs would realise the commercial potential of their assets and would develop their kits and sales techniques to achieve maximum financial benefits. It wasn't until 1975 that the first official shirts went on sale in England when Leeds United launched the first ever replica kit. The shirts were made by Admiral and featured a club badge, consequently raising the price for supporters wishing to wear their team's colours. Previously able to buy a generic white shirt, Leeds fans would now have to spend more than twice as much money on the official replica shirt.
The arrival of the replica kit would have the biggest impact imaginable on the evolution soccer kit. Club badges would become a marketable aspect of the kit, with clubs seeking to register the copyright to protect their investment. Kit makers such as Admiral, Bukta and Umbro would waive their fees for producing the kit in return for a cut of the profits generated by shirt sales, a commercial practice that continues to this day.
Another practice that would enter the soccer kit design would be the introduction of shirt sponsors in the late 1970s. Initially, clubs would show the name of the kit manufacturers, as demonstrated by the first UK club sponsor of Hibernian FC with shirts showing Bukta on the chest. This quickly evolved into a marketing strategy for both club and sponsor, with the soccer team earning substantial financial rewards for advertising the sponsor's name.
Kit sponsorship remained conservative in the UK, with teams only allowed to display one sponsor up until the 21st century when restrictions were stretched. Clubs would print sponsors on their shorts as well as on the backs of shirts - although this had been common practice in countries such as Mexico for years. Mexican club sides would display three or four sponsors on their shirts, often with two or three individual company names solely on the shirt's front.
The 1980s saw a trend for slim-fitting shirts and smaller shorts, epitomised by the all red Liverpool kit worn by such Kop legends as Dalglish, Rush and Hansen. These kits gave way to the baggy, retro look of the 90s that was introduced when the Premier League was launched in 1992. Bold colours and unusual patterns were often chosen, sometimes as a second or third kit with a traditional design as the club's main uniform.
Squad numbers were used by Premier League clubs in another attempt to boost revenue from shirt sales, as popular player's names were blazened across the backs of supporters in the stands. With so many kits available for each club, shirt sales became a major part of the soccer club's economy and so regular changes occur to boost club funds and profits. It is not unusual for a club to release two or three different shirt designs each year in an attempt to capitalise on the soccer shirt's commercial draw.
So what does the future hold for the soccer shirt? With skin-tight lycra, baggy-retro look, sleeveless shirts and animal prints all making an appearance in the last 150 years, the possibilities are endless. As new fabrics, designs and styles become popular, the soccer shirt of the future holds so many possibilities.

For all the England fans watching the South African World Cup, it has been a week filled with ups and downs. Although the English supporters were saddened with the performance of the England team on the draw with Algeria, fans was even more disappointed with the 4-1 loss to the Germans.

Some fans have been complaining about the England team manager, Fabio Capello. Although there is a lot of criticism on his strategy, most complaints are related to his communication skills in English. Being an Italian national, Fabio Capello has been struggling to convey his message clearly to the audience during the post match TV interviews. Many fans fear that if the manager is not able to communicate properly during an interview, he is also likely to have difficulties in communicating with the English football players. The loyal fans will say the near to incompetent English communication skill is totally unforgivable. Those who are not familiar with the football scene may be scratching their head as England, the country where the English language originated, is paying about 5 million sterling pounds to an Italian guy who cannot even hold a decent English conversation to lead their national football team.

There are examples of football club managers not being able to speak decent English, but who have still won big championships. Robert "Bob" Paisley, the former Liverpool football club manager was such a legend. Even though Bob Paisley was rarely able to pronounce a full and complete sentence, the football players were still able to do what Paisley intended. The reason for success mainly lies on Bob Paisley starting off as a Liverpool player, later becoming the team physiotherapist and coach, and finally as club manager. His deep understanding of the Liverpool players and club tradition has made it so much easier for the players to see what he was trying to do and that provided its own momentum. Between 1974 and 1983, he managed to lead Liverpool into 3 European Cups, 1 UEFA cup, 3 League Cups, 5 Community Shields and 1 UEFA Super Cup, and still remains in the record as the only manager to have won 3 European Cups.

However, the current circumstances are very different; Fabio Capello is not leading a football team like the Liverpool team. The England team is made up of the best players from England but they have only come together as a team just before the world cup. There is no mutual understanding between the football players with their Italian manager to provide a strong momentum. Indeed, Fabio Capello has done really well in the past managing other European teams such as Milan, Real Madrid, Roma and Juventus. Yet, this is the first time he is leading an English speaking team.

It is very doubtful that the Italian manager will be able to motivate his players in the dressing room during half time using his incomplete English. Any football fan would know that this is a key moment where the manager delivers the most important instructions and motivation to the players. Even with the presence of a translator, the emotion and spirit of the message will somewhat struggle to come across within such limited time. Those players who cannot understand the message may simply ignore the instructions. This loss has possibly showed us that the manager's inability to communicate effectively eventually contributed to the downfall of the team.

The two-time African footballer of the year moved to Ajax in 1994 where he won three Dutch league titles, the Champions League, Uefa Super Cup and the Intercontinental Cup. He joined Inter Milan in 1996 and won the Uefa Cup with the Italians in 1998, before moving Arsenal in 1999 where he won two league titles and two FA Cups. He scored 44 goals in 198 games for the Gunners. After a two-year spell with West Brom, Kanu joined Portsmouth in 2006 and he played in two FA Cup finals, scoring the winning goal against Cardiff in the 2008 showpiece at Wembley. His international success includes a Fifa under-17 World Cup title in 1993 and the 1996 Olympic football gold medal. Kanu's individual honours include African Footballer of the Year awards in 1996 and 1999. He finished in sixth place at the 1996 Fifa World Player of the Year gala. The criticism reached fever pitch over the last six months, with the pitch playing badly on several showpiece occasions including the Carling Cup final, the FA Cup final and several England internationals. The debate was also a factor in the departure of the former FA chief executive Ian Watmore, who was angry about the use of the stadium for rugby union fixtures.

Wembley Stadium will hope the new pitch will reassure Uefa ahead of next season's Champions League final and provide comfort to Fifa ahead of a crucial phase in England's bid to host the 2018 World Cup. "Should the FA be successful in its bid to host the 2018 Fifa World Cup, the pitch will be used entirely for football in that calendar year through until the completion of the tournament," it promised yesterday. After English club Chelsea, who won both the premiership and the FA Cup last season, did not renew Ballack's contract after four years, he received offers from German clubs Wolfsburg and Hamburg as well as English clubs Liverpool and Tottenham. There were also reports of offers from other European clubs.

The Premier League is an English professional league for association football clubs. At the top of the English football league system, it is the country's primary football competition. Contested by 20 clubs, it operates on a system of promotion and relegation with The Football League. The Premier League is a corporation in which the 20 member clubs act as shareholders. Seasons run from August to May, with teams playing 38 games each totaling 380 games in the season. Most games are played on Saturdays and Sundays, with a few games played during weekday evenings. It is sponsored by Barclays Bank and therefore officially known as the Barclays Premier League.

The competition formed as the FA Premier League on 20 February 1992 following the decision of clubs in the Football League First Division to break away from The Football League, which was originally founded in 1888, and take advantage of a lucrative television rights deal. The Premier League has since become the world's most watched sporting league. It is the world's most lucrative football league, with combined club revenues of 1.93 billion ($3.15bn) in 200708. It is also ranked first in the UEFA coefficients of leagues based on performances in European competitions over the last five years, ahead of Spain's La Liga and Italy's Serie A.

A total of 44 clubs have competed in the Premier League, but only four have won the title: Arsenal, Blackburn Rovers, Chelsea, and Manchester United. The current champions are Chelsea, who won the 200910 seasons.

North Korea : Group G
Manager: Kim Jong-Hun
Star Player: Jong Tae-Se
World Cup Appearances: 2

Venue : Green Point Stadium

Portugal Vs North Korea DPR Team Profile:
Portugal :FIFA World Ranking: 3rd
Seleccao das Quinas are a team in transition as coach Carlos Queiroz attempts to blend experience with youth, along with one Cristiano Ronaldo, to have a successful World Cup 2010. Portugal managed to get into South Africa via a play-off against Bosnia & Herzegovina, a team they only edged out 1-0 home and away, highlighting the team's inability to finish off opponents despite superior skills and talent.Portugal's poor form and inconsistency on the big stage has led many to write them off as serious contenders, especially given the group draw. However, a look at the squad sheet will reveal that, at least on paper, they are capable of challenging most top sides. Defenders Ricardo Carvalho, Pepe, Paulo Ferreira and Bruno Alves have all proven themselves at club level, and will not be easy to score against. Protected by the under-rated Raul Meireles, who has been in excellent form for club and country, it is doubtful that they will be at the end of any thrashings. In midfield, the Portuguese will rely on the creative brilliance of Cristiano Ronaldo, but along side him, Chelsea's Deco will have to regain the form he showed a few years ago if the Portuguese are to repeat their 2006 feat of reaching the semi-finals.On the wings, the team has plenty of pace and guile Manchester United's Nani looks much improved this season, and Atletico Madrid's Simao Sabrosa will be confident after winning the Europa League with his club. Up front, strikers are the biggest question mark for Carlos Queiroz's team Hugo Almeida has been underwhelming even after the many opportunities presented to him, while veteran Liedson hardly strikes terror into the hearts of opposition defences. A bigger worry will be the fact that the Portuguese rarely seem to live up to their potential as a team, as their tedious qualification process highlighted.

Key Player: Cristiano Ronaldo

The most expensive player in football history, Cristiano Ronaldo is widely considered one of the world's best footballers, and will captain Portugal at this year's World Cup despite being just 25. Real Madrid signed him for 80 million last summer, and he is also rumoured to be the world's highest-paid player. Ronaldo has won numerous personal and club honours, claiming the Premier League, UEFA Champions League and FA Cup with former club Manchester United. Blessed with explosive pace, sublime dribbling skills, and one of the most-feared shots on the globe, Ronaldo is capable of tearing apart a defence on his own, and he will have to reproduce some of his brilliant performances at club level for Portugal if they are to stand a chance in South Africa.

What they said
"The World Cup is short, not a lot of time to make an impression. Portugal will need to get together as a team quickly." Portuguese legend Eusebio is apprehensive yet hopeful ahead of what he expects to be a great tournament.

What we think
As a group the current generation does not quite compare to that of Luis Figo, Rui Costa et al but in Ronaldo, they possess arguably the finest player on the planet. Would be disappointed not to get to the last eight in South Africa.

North Korea :FIFA World Ranking: 105th
To the romantics, North Korea's qualification is the big story of the 2010 event in South Africa. Coach Kim Jong-Hun has moulded a disciplined side whose first priority is not to concede goals, and then try to hit on the counter-attack.In winger Mun In-Guk and Japan-based striker Jong Tae-Se, they have the players who can sneak a goal but, as their group rivals will be relieved to hear, the North Koreans don't attack much. That will put enormous pressure on Pyongyang City keeper Ri Myong-Guk and his fellow defenders, and while they were able to use this to their advantage in the Asian qualification process, whether they can do the same against top class opponents like Brazil, Portugal and the Ivory Coast. Another man to watch is midfielder Nam Song-Chol, a versatile 27-year-old who can play the holding role, but also has a blistering left foot.

Key Player: Jong Tae-Se

Sometimes referred to in the press as "Asia's Wayne Rooney", Jong Tae-Se is an unknown quantity outside AFC circles, but is well known by fans of the J-League. He plays his club football for Kawasaki Frontale, and has scored 42 goals in 103 appearances for the side. He has also scored 15 times in 22 appearances for the North Korean national team, and will certainly be the frontman as North Korea attempt to show the world that they have deserve their place in South Africa.

What they said
"We are likely to meet European teams once more at South Africa 2010 and I hope we can repeat the feats of our predecessors." Coach Kim Jong Hun hopes that his team can match the 1966 quarter-final appearance made by the DPRK.

What we think
Plenty of attention will fall on the North Koreans, who for political and social reasons will be one of the great curiosities of the finals. On the pitch, their qualification was secured thanks to a tight defence and while they are highly unlikely to get to the last 16, it is equally difficult to imagine them losing their shape at any point and getting hammered.
